June 30, 200916 yr http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/meast/06/29/...rash/index.htmlNot much news at this point, but it is certainly challenging and difficult to hear of any crash and of the losses involved.Regards,John
June 30, 200916 yr Crash: Yemenia A310 near Moroni on Jun 29th 2009, impacted oceanBy Simon Hradecky, created Tuesday, Jun 30th 2009 06:21Z, last updated Tuesday, Jun 30th 2009 06:57ZA Yemenia Airbus A310-300, flight IY-626 from Sana'a (Yemen) to Moroni Hahaia (Comores) with 147 passengers and 11 crew, disappeared from radar while on approach to Moroni about 6 minutes prior to estimated arrival just before midnight (20:59Z). The airplane was on the outbound leg of the instrument approach and during the turn back towards the runway, when it disappeared. On Tuesday morning (Jun 30th) a boat discovered debris of the missing airliner in the Indian Ocean. There are no sign of survivors, several bodies have been sighted. The airline reports 142 passengers and 11 crew. The Comores Foreign Ministry said however, that number was incorrect and 147 passengers were on board. HereEdit:- Ooops. Sorry, didn't see that someone has already picked up on it. Mods please merge. June 30, 200916 yr Two good differences between this and Air France... Shallower water will help the crash investigation. And since they were preparing for landing at a slower speed, better survival chances. Hopefully there will be more than one survivor.Ropert HereEdit:- Ooops. Sorry, didn't see that someone has already picked up on it. Mods please merge.
June 30, 200916 yr Until now, I didn't know it had been on approach; thanks BBC :( . That (shallow water and slow speed) will certainly help, as Robert mentioned, both the investigation and chance of (more) survivors. Zach
June 30, 200916 yr Seems to be an airport pilots aren't too keen on landing at night (and then add winds possibly 35 kts).scott s..

July 5, 200916 yr Hello,The black boxes ......http://translate.google.be/translate?u=htt...fr&ie=UTF-8Regards.Gus.
July 5, 200916 yr We just have to hope that the FDRs were properly maintained, which given the reports of various systems being poorly serviced on the aircraft, is certainly not guaranteed. It would not be the first time a 'black box' has been found to have not recorded anything, although these days problems are less likely, so it could very well be that they were okay. I suppose the fact that they were kicking out a sonar signal means at least part of their systems are working. I'd read some reports that it was a landing after a previous attempt and subsequent go around, where they were experiencing 50 knot winds, so it may have simply just hit some bad windshear and gone into the drink through a lack of flying speed. Evidently quite a few people survived the initial crash and were alive in the water alongside the girl who survived, but sadly could not hang on long enough for rescue, which would seem to indicate that the thing came down without a massive impact.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
July 5, 200916 yr Airbus goes down in New York in water; all spared.Airbus goes down in Atlantic; all lostAirbus goes down off coast of Comoros: one survivor. There's clearly a pattern here, aside from the planes all being Airbus. Maybe they should rename themselves...
July 6, 200916 yr On an Airbus flight:"Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain: we're now descending for Honolulu, and at this point we ask that you put your seats and trays in their full upright positions, turn off and stow all electronic devices and don your life jackets. Flight Attendants: please prepare for landing. Up periscope!"There's a guy in the UK with a popular aircraft nicknames website; the nicks that got my attention were for the Airbus A320, because there were so many nicknames, such as the MiniBus, NintendoJet, ScareBus, Chainsaw, Deathjet, Freddie Kruegers Wet Dream, Toulouse Grasscutter and The Strimmer. It further tells the two following jokes:(1) What's the difference between an A320 and a beaver? 4000 trees per hour.(2) The A320 is known as 'The John Wayne' because it 'chops down trees, moves mountains and kills Indians!!'My joke: How do you get out of an Airsub--er, Airbus? Backstroke!

July 7, 200916 yr Dude, relax. Srsly.Actually, that was a relaxed quote from one who appreciates black humor to another. Didn't come across properly online. Sorry. I thought the logo was funny. The tone would have been dicey in person, never could carry over the internet.
