Help with NZCH scenery...

Featured Replies

Hi, Just wondering if anybody knows of a way to fix the seemingly excellent NZCH (Christchurch, New Zealand) scenery by Ian Warren?. The file was downloaded from FScom, but I got another earlier version from here (AVSIM). The problem is I have a building crash everytime I try to load into NZCH, no matter where from. It would be a shame not to be able to use this scenery as it seems very decent is quality and the deault is not very appealing. Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance for your help,regards,MacsP.S.: I'd like to not disuse crash detection...

A lot of add-on sceneries suffer from "building crashes" and I'm not entirely sure why because exclude files I have created for my own (albeit simple) sceneries seem to exclude the buildings fully rather than just visually. I can only think that they are developed with outdated software. The first thing to do would be to surely approach the developer for a solution.Otherwise I can only suggest you consider making your own supplemental exclude files. A small and free programme called excbuilder will do this, but it isn't very user friendly. Or the payware AFX will do it much more easily - this effectively is a bigger and better version of Lee Swordy's AFCAD and includes the ability to exclude areas within its AFD files by just drawing a rectangle. It would simply be a case of loading the AF2 file, adding the exclude areas, saving it as an AFX file, and then disabling or deleting the original AF2.Hope this helps,John

All I do is go to the settings section and uncheck "Crash detection". Yes, I know it's not realistic, but it solves the problem. Many others have adopted this method as well.Jim D.

Thanks to both for the help. I'll just keep on using the default scenery as I cannot stand disabling crash detection ( I may give the exclusion software a try though).regards,Macs :)

Maybe try out the nzscenery.com version of NZCH. I use it, and love it.

Crashing into the invisible barrier around buildings etc. is far more common that one might think. As I understand it, most of the design programs which can be used to create "objects" used in scenery enhancements have an option to include an invisible "crash" barrier around the object. Many authors apparently fail to turn off this option prior to compiling the object. When such objects are eventually used in an enhancement, you get the annoying "crash" problem. As others have said, turning off crash detection is the easiest way to avoid most of these problems. If the objects in question are a part of an addon scenery you likely will have better luck contacting the author.Good luck!

I cannot stand disabling crash detection
Why? 99% of such crashes happen not because of our piloting skills (you would probably be dead anyway) but due to scenery faults.I have it off and suffer no stress of terminating my simulation due to an unexpected and pointless 'crash'.Best regards

Does it have an NZCH airport enhancement over default? I can only see terrain enhancement files there. I have Red Baron's excellent New Zealand mesh scenery enhancement and would not trade it for other though. Thanks again for your help, regards,Macs :)P.S.: Turning crash detection off is a complete NO NO for me, even though you rarely crash due to actual obstruction collision...

There are two versions there. One with photoreal tiles (though it's looking dated now with difference colours for tiles etc) or just the airport.I now only use the airport and not the surrounding area.
