July 15, 200916 yr Hey guys! I was looking to buy a new system and build it myself, so I just wanted you guys to take a look at the parts I might want and tell me what you think and how it'll perform with FSX!Motherboard:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813131365RAM:http://www.mushkin.com/doc/products/memory_detail.asp?id=745Video Card:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814130492Processor:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115202Hard Drive:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822136296Power Supply:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817139006Case:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811129043CPU Cooler:http://www.frozencpu.com/products/8807/?campid=bmrThere you go! Tell me what you think! Oh, and I'm planning to overclock the processor to 4.0 ghz with the settings from this post by NickN: http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_post...D=174227#174227EDIT: Forgot to add the second hard drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822136320 James Lunsford
July 15, 200916 yr Hi djam,A suggestion first, at Newegg you can make a public wish list, then direct everyone to that, it will have everything in one place. Is this for Flightsim only? 150gig is good for the OS and other programs, but most other builders here are buying the 300 gig raptor for flight sim and or other games. This is the way I built mine and works fine. Most also will buy the 920DO if you want to overclock. Newegg as far as I can tell does not offer that one.All in all a good start. Ralph Peebles

The 150 Gig should be fine for just FSX as I don't really have that much photoscenery just aircraft like the PMDG MD-11 and the Maddog 2008 along with SOME photoscenery (very little) and some FSdreamteam Airports. About the Processor: So you would recommend I buy from here: http://www.antaresdigital.com/customer/pro...at=0&page=1 and pay the extra $8 for the D0 stepping? Thanks for your input, I'm sorta new at this so I need all the help I can get! Thanks,James Lunsford James Lunsford
July 15, 200916 yr Looks really good, if you prefer modular cabling for your PSU, Corsair also has a new model at 750w:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E1681713901065 more buckeroos but if you like modular cables... :) | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

I have never bought anything from them but maybe someone else has.Not sure of your cash situation, but if it were me I would spring for the 300gig so as to have extra room down the road. I use the 150's for the OS, but that's just me.Good luck though! Ralph Peebles
July 15, 200916 yr Author I'll just stick with the non-modular PSU. Cash is kinda tight right now and I'd like to save all the money I can without letting performance downs, so I'll just stick with the non-modular and I'll think about the 300 gig Velociraptor! I was just wondering if my GPU would be a bottleneck or if it'll be fine? I was also wondering if this system will be able to handle the PMDG MD-11 with pretty high settings and at FSDreamteam airports? Thanks,James Lunsford James Lunsford
July 15, 200916 yr I just ordered a similar system but decided not to purchase the VR HD's because I feel they are a bit too much money. I was debating between the GTX 275 or 285 and decided for the 285. If you could spare the extra $60 or so bucks, I'd go for the 285.http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWi...Number=10425225 Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE) - PPL ASEL i9 12900k @ 5.2 - 32 GB DDR5 @ 6000 - 3080TI - W11
July 15, 200916 yr Author Yeah, the velociraptors are a bit too much money for me right now... I may consider buying one later, but how much performance increase does a velociraptorprovide over a hard drive like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822136320 ?Thanks,James Lunsford James Lunsford
July 17, 200916 yr Personally in my rig I have the ATI 4870 and it runs everything with flying colors ( holds up nice in FSX ) but if you really wanted to get the job done you could get the 4890. I found they are better for the price ( my brother has the GTX 280 and my 4870 out performs him just buy a little ) and 2/3rds of the price tag :)this should do it for under $200 :)http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814150359

I just really don't think that an HD will make "THAT" much difference unless it's in read ,write speed.

You can read some tuning conversations with Nick in the last link in the bottom of my Sig. Good choice! Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE

The last digit (2 instead of 1) is different in the model number than what you chose above but my model number has wider heatsinks (better stability at the low latency). 6/7/6/18 was advertised and I could probably tighten mine a bit more. Last I remember it was something like $15 difference at Newegg. Just a thought; both models are fine though... Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
