Upgrade to GTX 560TI/570
Hi Guys I'm looking to see if you could give me some advice as to if an upgrade to a GTX 560TI/570 would make a difference in terms of smoothness and overall performance on my machine. I'll be upgrading from a GTX 285, but I don't know how much of a difference it would be, with all things the same. See my specs below. Thanks for your help!

How to set AA in FS9 and FSX for Nvidia's 2xx.xx drivers (now with working Transparency AA!)
Settings do look great but I do see the same tearing issues described. Had seen them before but they are much more noticeable now.

Not again feelthere!
I'm sorry "ceem" but welcome to the Internet! It's the twenty first century and I could find out a lot more information about you then just your name. I don't see anything unreasonable about asking for you to use your name, or maybe to prevent piracy. It's their way of trying to remain professional and address a person. I do agree you are being a bit paranoid but what can I say.I'm a bit confused as to how your name could be classified as "sensitive information".

bojote's fsx.cfg file
When you posted this, I tried it out as well. Great results, and a similar experience to yours. For a file that is supposed to be "personalized" to each computer, I'm quite shocked. Then again, i'm not shocked at this awesome community for uncovering these new tweaks. :(

REX snapshots examples
Dyno152 replied to Bina's topic in The AS16 and ASCA | Active Sky | Active Sky Next | XPAX Support ForumJust a quick question, and sorry to jump in, but Im using REX 2 with ASE and just wanted to see if my method is the same as doing the snapshots feature. Before each flight, I'll open REX and load textures based on my flightplan and real world weather. Once those are loaded into FS, i'll load ASE and FSX. Does doing the several different snapshots method work/look better than what I'm doing now? Have been a bit confused with that. Thanks!

[BufferPools] PoolSize=0 the holy grail of FSX performance...
Hey *******, I've used your shader tweak just as an added precaution to the corrupted/missing textures issue but since I did it, aircraft on VATSIM become invisible with only the lights visible. Could this be the problem you've referred to? I'm using FSINN client. World of AI Planes. Thanks!

Short pauses when descending
Still have to do more testing but was able to complete a few flights last night with no problem. My biggest problem was the corrupted textures issue, but it seems vertical sync and lowering the prerender limit to 1 solved those problems. Lowering the TBM to 40 from 70 and running BP=0 seemed to fix these short pauses for me. Actually I was just flying into the default KMCO airport, no special textures. Just using GEX and UTX.

Short pauses when descending
Hey guys, thought everything was going great with FSX. Installed Active sky evolution a few days ago and now I cannot complete a flight without getting short, 1 to 2 second pauses when I descend below 10,000 ft (or any low altitude). Switching drivers and did not help, rebuilt fsx.cfg config, no help. Have had success with the bufferpools=o thread and mainly followed those instructions. Has anybody run into this type of problems yet? I'm trying to pinpoint some causes but figured while I do that, maybe somebody has found a solution already. Here's a video that describes it a bit better http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmyY_0fExCQDecreasing FSX settings does nothing. Running CS757, LVLD 767, PMDG 747. It SEEMS that when I closed ASE, the stutters/pauses go away. Not sure what to get from that. All ASE settings are default. Here are some settings that may be of help.TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=70[bufferpools]poolsize=0LOD_RADIUS=4.500000MESH_COMPLEXITY=100MESH_RESOLUTION=22TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=29NHancer settings:All set to Nick's guide post except I turned vertical sync off, and Prerender limit to 1. These settings found in the bufferpool thread seemed to cure my corrupted texture problems so I'll try resetting them back and seeing what happens. Sound drivers are updated to latest. Thanks for your help guys!

Any update on current best driver for FSX?
Dyno152 replied to markturner's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcFor my system, the latest Nvidia drivers (197.13) have seemed to cure many problems for me. I don't think there is a "perfect" driver set for everyone, it really all depends on the system. I think I remember seeing the G3D.dll error once but that was with older drivers at the time.

Great job on ASE
I've been running FSX for several months now and finally have things set correctly. For some reason, I did not pick up active sky for FSX. Always used it in FS9 but finally purchased ASE tonight and love it. I had been using REX 2 weather engine for the time, but I kept getting inconsistent/outdated winds. ASE is just amazing from what I've seen. The information I can get from the map display and briefing are great and something I missed with REX. METARs are always current, and the smoothing methods for winds and visibility work flawlessly. Weather updates are gradual and I don't even notice them - With REX, the weather would completely clear and rebuild a different environment, causing severe changes in winds and clouds. The only thing I was worried about is how it handles the problem of wind shifts - I did notice with DWC on, and FSUIPC settings to weather off, I did experience some erratic wind shifts when climbing and landing, usually below 11,000ft. FSUIPC completely clears this for me by disabling turbulence effects. I've tested this with PMDG 747, LVLD 763, CS 757, and ERJ. I'm using REX2 to install real world textures based upon current conditions and ASE for weather, and they match up great and look amazing.Great job on this product guys - This is a MUST own in my opinion for FSX. Nothing comes close.

[BufferPools] PoolSize=0 the holy grail of FSX performance...
Amazing, I've been searching for the cure to the black screen ever since I built my computer. Two flights completed with no problems - Was even able to alt-tab out of FSX and back in several times, which before almost always caused a black screen and would not let me back into FSX. Just flew w/ VATSIM LVLD 767 into FSDT KORD at night, smooth sim and no artifacts, corrupted textures, ect! I'm not getting too excited yet because when I turn off my computer who knows what is going to happen next. It's only been one day.Anyways, here is my steps I took to get everything working correctly. Unlimited FPS in FSX, FPS Limiter to 30 FPS BP=0Prerender Limit = 1 (Like you guys found before, I think this is the key here)TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=70[TERRAIN]LOD_RADIUS=4.500000MESH_COMPLEXITY=100MESH_RESOLUTION=22TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=29AUTOGEN_DENSITY=4DETAIL_TEXTURE=1WATER_EFFECTS=6 (High 2.0 - Not sure if water affected anything on my end, but I increased it and it works fine)NVIDIA 197.13 DriverI've noticed increasing LOD Radius & Texture max load will give corrupted textures/black screen. You guys are great! It's really good to see everyone's hard work to fully making this sim enjoyable Now, let the FSX gods strike me with black screens and errors :(

question for Bob Scott (w6kd)
Dyno152 replied to FlyinMisfit's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcI'd be curious to hear how everything goes when you replace your EVGA GTX 285 Bob. I've run into the black screen troubles resulting in the continuous bashing of my head against the wall for some time now. This is actually the first time I've heard these screen troubles pinpointed specifically to the GTX 285. Is this enough information to get me to sell it and upgrade to the ATI 5870? I've been lucky so far - I just completed my first flight in a long time with no problems. Just ran a second flight for about an hour and tried to purposely crash or cause a "black screen", no troubles! Reverted back to 182.50 drivers, updated sound card drivers and erased the FSX cfg file. However, at this point, who knows if this will continue, for good or bad. Perfect stability in FSX is like trying to talk politics with Rush Limbaugh :)

Cannot get 3.6ghz Stable with i7
Thanks for the help guys...have been busy so I couldn't do much but I did run a check with Memtest and all is well. I will try to increase Vcore Bob, however I haven't had any BSOD within windows, just CTD within FSX. The funny part is when I was increasing my OC and receiving BSOD's, i never got 101's or 124's , they usually are something to do with "IRQL not less" something along those lines with a stop : 0x00000000a Thanks again!

Cannot get 3.6ghz Stable with i7
Hey guys, having a bit of a problem with getting my core i7 920 DO staying at 3.6ghz without FSX giving me a CTD. If I back my OC down to 3.4, I've got no problems with stability in FSX but as soon as I get up to 3.6 , I'll get a FSX CTD, either several minutes in or a couple hours. I didn't think Vcore needed to be that high but I tried 1.3 and even that did not settle my problems. Temps are not a problem as they never get above 63c at load. Some specs of what I'm currently running stable:http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=716092Not sure where to go from here - Thanks!

PMDG JS-41
Load up the plane and do a full power takeoff :(
-
PMDG JS-41
Yes, the FMS has the ability to input SID + STARS. However, this is not a plane you set and forget - Weather plays a major factor as the typical cruise altitude in this plane is the sweet spot where you pick up some interesting weather. These engines also require constant monitoring as over temps can occur.A great, high quality plane - One of the best available for FSX.
