I need help with DirectX

Featured Replies

:( I am running FS2002 with Windows ME. Somehow the DirectX8a program which was loaded with FS2002 has been corrupted? lost? In any event it doesn' t seem to be working. Each time I attempt to load FS2002 an error message is displayed "FS2002 requires DirectX8a. Reinstall FS2002" (or something to that effect). But when I attempt to reload FS2002, a window appears with an option to install DirectX8a, yet when I select that option it no longer installs DirectX8a. I've attempted to download version 8a from Microsoft but nothing I've tried works. I can see the individual files and folders on Disc 1 of the FS2002 discs but I don't know what directories need to be set up and which files they should contain?Note: While Windows ME may not be the latest version of Microsoft's windows environment, it satisfies my needs so I don't wish to upgrade to Vista or some other version of Windows. Can someone help me? Richard

Try loading Directx in safe mode, your anti-virus may be interfering.Download link.
You cannot use the internet in Safe Mode. He will have to download and save the setup and then load it in safemode. I think the problem is his OS (Operating System) though, because Windows ME is very old and is not even supported by Microsoft anymore.

Thanks for your advise. Am I correct is your assumption that I have an Internet connection? In fact, I don't. My only connection to the internet is through a terminal at our local library which I've tried to use to download DirectX8a or version 9, but the web page tells me I already have DirectX loaded for Vista. As you can probably guess, the DirectX version for Vista does not work in Windows ME. Regarding the suggestion to load in safe mode . . . do you mean to load DirectX8a from Micrsosoft FS2002 disc to my PC? Richard

Hello,

but the web page tells me I already have DirectX loaded for Vista
I don't use Vista .. but I think only direct X10 is dedicated for Vista... the other DirectX versions work in the other Windows OS.Very strange and how you have actually DirectX reference Vista installed on your system ...Anyways at least you must be able to see by the directX dialog wich DirectX is on your system. What you can try is to deinstall properly your actual DirectX version:http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=160332And if it's directX10 ...http://www.techimo.com/forum/applications-...ectx-10-xp.htmlAnd reinstall the needed DirectX version. On your OS disk .. it must be a DirectX folder and inside a Setup.exeYou must reinstall from this setup.exe.Dunno if it's will help ....Regards.bye.gifGus.

A question for clarification. When you go to the library to download DirectX are you using your FS computer or maybe a computer that is already there? It sounds to me like you are trying to download DirectX 8 on a computer that has Vista?I don't know if this will work.Joe

Hello,Here you can safely download any DirectX versions:http://www.falconfly.de/directx.htmRegards.bye.gifGus.

To check your version of DirectX, go to Start - Run and type dxdiag. This will tell you your version number, and you can run diagnostics which should tell you if there is a problem. You will, as Gus has posted, need to download the DX8 executable from a different source to that of the MS DX page - your library's computer I imagine is Vista, and this is why the page picks up you have DX10.Or, you can go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en and download DX9 - FS2002 should still run fine under that version of DX.Leo
