July 31, 200916 yr I think you need the pay/pro version to export your model in a format that can be used to create an .mdl file.scott s..
July 31, 200916 yr Hello:In the examples I have read about where Sketch-Up file were ported to GMAX via a "Collada" conversion route prior to output for use in FS, the 3D models required a considerable reduction in polygon/vertex detail, and textures had to be re-created and re-mapped as native GMAX materials before they could be used.As such, most experienced modelers (I'm NOT one!) suggested that it's easier to just build such FS models inside GMAX entirely from scratch.Hope this helps! :( GaryGB
August 1, 200916 yr Thankyou GaryGB and scott.sI do not Design Scenery but i Design aircraft for fs2004. Just asking if you can do it in Sketch up 7click my banner to go to my website
August 2, 200916 yr Commercial Member Hi,As mentioned above, I think most people if they do it use the Pro version and the 3DS format to go to GMax. In GMax it can be exported to the MDL format for FS.The more complex your objects, and that would be especially the case for aircraft, the more work you need to do in GMax to be able to export it to FS. For example setting the material settings correctly, setting up the LODs, etc. In general I think it is easier to work with GMax directly in that case. Arno If the world should blow itself up, the last audible voice would be that of an expert saying it can't be done. FSDeveloper.com | Former Microsoft FS MVP | Blog
August 8, 200916 yr SketchUp Pro has a demo version that gives 8 hours of free time. That might give enough time to find out whether that tool meets your needs.Or check here for alternative methods of converting sketchup models to 3DS without the need for SketchUp Pro.http://forums.devshed.com/game-development...t-519710-3.htmlJohn
August 10, 200916 yr MeshLab is a free converter that will work for simple models:http://meshlab.sourceforge.net/You can make a 3ds export that gmax can import under the File/Import menu. The mesh will then need a 90* rotation along the X axis. The material is also imported, but you need to apply it to the selected mesh. You need to open the material navigator, and the material editor to do this.It works OK for simple models. After the model is in Gmax, save it, and then export as a usual.Note:In FS all images for the model must be a multiple of 2. 256x256, 256x512, 1024x32 are all examples of this... so make sure your Sketchup jpgs are also multiples of 2.Dick
