August 9, 200916 yr Commercial Member Hi, I am learning slowly but finding myself hampered by questions arising that are not directly covered by manuals or tutorials.I have been trying to use the lessons in FSX, butam just about ready to throw rod the instructor out of the plane. Its impossible to see what to do, the bar says "you are too far left", so you turn to the right, he pipes up says " turn left" !!! You cant see which instruments he is referring to, a screen pointer would be good. Then, when you are obviously so far of course, he says" since this is not going well, i am going to end the lesson" How about just showing me which direction to go to get back on course!!. Really frustrating!!!Firstly, is there any articles or tutorials that anyone knows of that walk you through the process of using a flight plan to ? I have looked in the tutorial section here, but not found anything that specifically matches what I want. I have the various Garmin manuals and the trainer as I also have the realityXP 530 gauge. For example. Say I have loaded a flight plan and I want to select an approach. Once I have selected the approach, I then get a choice of various things, eg, vectors, and some vor points. How do I know which one to choose? Do I need a map of the area so I can see which one is going to be the most sensible to use? Can i do this from within FSX, or do I need to do it when i make the flight plan?I have 2 monitors, is it possible to have the learning centre open on one and fly a mission or tutorial on the other?cheers, MarkPS, the page index is missing from the forum again!
August 9, 200916 yr Look around for some tutorials like these - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ls1IbAzf8KMhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_g4A6Y3Ko90more at youtube.comhttp://simviation.com/fshelp.htmhttp://guides.gamepressure.com/flightsimul...ide.asp?ID=1998hope some of these help you

His Instrument Pilot's Handbook is a great source for learning about this stuff. For example. Say I have loaded a flight plan and I want to select an approach. August 9, 200916 yr Author Commercial Member Hey Thanks people, checking out some of those links now.Geoff, if syou elect vectors, what happens, do you need to contact ATC, ie have window open? Do they just give you verbal directions or Do you still need to select "APR" on the autopilot as you near the approach and the autopliot flies you in? And would you need to switch the CD! from GPS to Nav, using a vectored approach? These sorts of questions are all so difficult to work out, once you deviate from the tutorial. i was using the quest kodiak approach tutorial, amnd have got that pretty of pat, but am now trying to apply pronciples to ther scenarios and finding gaping holes in my knowledge!!!!And does anyone know about the learning centre on another monitor business ?cheers, Mark
August 9, 200916 yr I'd like to help, but I'm not sure what the question is. Your questions are all over the place. At first it sounds like you're asking how to simply stay on course and find your destination.. then you jump to questions about flying complex approaches, by GPS.Let's narrow it down, and walk before we run.
August 9, 200916 yr Author Commercial Member HE He, sorry, now I have recovered from the frustration of the lesson, I can see your point. I am going to peruse some of the excellent articles, in some of the links above and try and figure it a bit for myself, before I come back to you guys, I was struggling for learning help and several of those links looked absolutely golden. Thanks aagain everyone, great forum here.cheers, Mark
August 9, 200916 yr Moderator And does anyone know about the learning centre on another monitor business ?Yes. You can even open the Learning Center without having FS loaded at all!..\FSX\Uires\lc01.htmThe lc01.htm file will launch the Learning Center in your browser, which you can then move to the second monitor for reference! :( Fr. August 9, 200916 yr I'll just add one bit of advice... I've spent a lot of time trying to help people get a realistic simming experience. As good as those links and videos are.. you're jumping way ahead of yourself by trying to learn GPS stuff in a big jet. You'll have more fun, not lose interest as quickly, and learn many things applicable to real flying; if you approach this stuff like you would for real.I've seen links to other simming sites, so I guess it's OK ... Try spending some time on these threads:http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/Ya...?num=1208113107THEN worry about learning GPS stuff.. and instrument flight.. and instrument approaches.. and airplanes with more than one engine :(

You guys are the best!!And yes, ggod advice about starting from basics. I am impatient and have only been flying FSX for a few months. The vast majority of that time I must admit has been spent setting it up, getting it looking good and buying addons. Now I need to sit down and learn to fly.......... from the beginning!!
