August 17, 200916 yr Hi Guys - I thinking about getting the MD-11 for FSX after many many hours of simming with the 747. I am also exited about the J41 and 737!I currently only have the 747 installed.I read somewhere that installation problems can occur if planes are not installed in the correct order.Anyone else heard this? Any recommendations?Thank you for your help. Adrian Burley London, UK
August 17, 200916 yr Commercial Member This is only with the old original installer for the 737 - if you install that after the (FS9) 744 or MD-11, it overwrites the PMDGOptions.dll with an older one that breaks the 744 and MD-11.There's no issue at all with the FSX products, they'll install in any order. August 28, 200916 yr Ryan,I've already got the FS9 747 and 747F installed and now want to install the 737 and 737NG. Will I be O.K. to leave the 747's in place and install the 737's if I first make up back up of PMDGOptions.dll and copy it back afterwards?Andy L
August 28, 200916 yr My guess is no. The dll would then exclude the 737.Adrian, I recently bought the MD-11 too with only the 747 running before. I had also read the concerns you noted, which probably delayed my purchase awhile as I made sure it was ok. I am pleased to report that in FSX it installed easily and with no problems. I even made sure to load a 747 flight after a short MD-11 discovery flight to ensure that both worked. And they did. So, buy away with confidence. But, one caveat: you'll want to send the wife/kid/parents/dog away for the weekend first; its a neat and very different bird to crack. August 29, 200916 yr My guess is no. The dll would then exclude the 737.Dan,Thanks for your reply but I'm not sure I follow what you're saying because the 737 and 747 can co-exist in FS9. If the later version of the .dll excluded the 737 then that wouldn't be the case unless both versions of it need to be present. If both versions of the .dll need to be there then they would have to be in different folders in which case the overwriting problem mentioned by Ryan wouldn't happen - I think. :( I'll give it a try and see what happens. Worst that can happen is I have to re-install one of them which I'd have to do anyway if I did it in the fail safe order.Andy L
August 29, 200916 yr Commercial Member Andy - your procedure is fine. The 744 and MD-11 PMDGOptions.dll support the 737. The 737 will always work regardless of which version of the dll you have - it's the 744 and MD-11 that get broken if you overwrite the newer version with the old one from the 737 installer:Just to clarify - here is the full situation with respect to the 737 installers:It all depends on when you purchased the 737 - we created new installers for them about a year and a half ago that use the same system the 747 and MD-11 installers do. These have no issues, you can install them after already having the 744 or MD-11 installed. If you have the original older installer that does not look like the 744 and MD-11 installers (blue in color with the modern PMDG logo, uses InstallShield) then you need to first rename the PMDGOptions.dll file in the Modules folder to PMDGOptions.dll.bak or something similar, install the 737s, then go back into the Modules folder and deleted the one placed there by the 737. Rename the other one back to PMDGOptions.dll and everything will be good to go. Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
August 30, 200916 yr Just a note of caution for anyone installing the 737 after the 747 or MD11. Can't speak for the download version but the CD version, both 600/700 and 800/900, will overwrite the contents of the FMCWP\NavData and PMDG\SIDSTAR folders so apart from backing up the newer .dll you may want to backup the NavData and SIDSTAR folders as well.I found no other problems apart from that.Andy L
