August 25, 200916 yr hi,i know there are problems of asx with pmdg,i wanted to know if somebody is using rex 2 with pmdg aircrafts and if there are some of the troublesome problems, which we all know happened with active sky weather engine.vivek http://www%28delete_this%29.precisionmanua...m/supporter.jpg
August 25, 200916 yr I have had rex for a couple months now and have had no issues with my pmdg aircraft so far! "To most the sky is the limit but to me it's home" Rick Harms (CYVR) i7 [email protected] (for now) asus p6t v2, 6gb ocz 1600 CL7 ram. BFG 285 oc, vista 64, Samsung 52" 1080p lcd track IR5. PMDG j41, 747-400x, 747-8i/f, NGX.......Finally!!!!
August 25, 200916 yr I have never had any issues between Active Sky and PMDG. I've owned all version in the past, AS6, ASX, and currently ASA. And to answer your question about REX, I really don't think you would see an issue because environment textures and the aircraft model are in two different sectors of the flight sim. Unless you are referring to the performance of the flight sim, then you might see some frame rate drop, which is normal for any big addon. Relative to REX, I have Flight Environment X and have yet to see any issues come about while flying the MD-11 or 747. I do plan to change over to REX 2.0 as soon as I build a new machine, just for personal choice in graphics.
August 26, 200916 yr Author Hi,thank you,i am installing rex2 today ,there have been issues with pmdg aircrafts having speed related issues, whenever there has been, sudden wind shifts ,there was one such post in rex forum, which mentions sudden loss in airspeed, with abrupt wind direction changes, this has been a frequent problem i faced with asx,and is supposed to be peculiar problem with pmdg, and till today has not been corrected, hope i do not face this with rex as i badly miss a weather engine.vivek http://www%28delete_this%29.precisionmanua...m/supporter.jpg
August 26, 200916 yr Hi vivek!I also have these problems with ASA, even with SP1 together with the MD-11 under FSX. And I also wanted to try REX2. So I'm very interested in your experience of this constellation. So please tell us your conclusion about this, I'm very curious!thank's Kai cheers Kai
August 26, 200916 yr Commercial Member REX has wind/pressure shift issues but it does not have the S turn/turbulence problem that ASA has as far as what I've seen in using it. Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com

So I'm very interested in your experience of this constellation. So please tell us your conclusion about this, I'm very curious!thank's Kaihi kai,rex takes ages to download and to install,i had certain installation issues with rex as well, things have just settled down now, had to reinstall fsx and all the add ons as well,so i need a couple of days to give you a feedback, will definitely let you know, there was one post on pmdg aircrafts having these problems in rex forum as well take a look at ithttp://realenvironmentxtreme.com/forum/ind...hp?topic=4646.0if ryan says there are some issues with wind directions then it may be a problemvivek REX has wind/pressure shift issues but it does not have the S turn/turbulence problem that ASA has as far as what I've seen in using it.ryanhow severe is this,i remember you writing that tim fuchs,of rex, lives close to you, did you manage to get in touch with him regarding this issue and how severe is the wind/pressure shift issue in respect to aircraft speeds.vivek http://www%28delete_this%29.precisionmanua...m/supporter.jpg
August 26, 200916 yr Commercial Member It's just the standard sudden shift in wind and pressure (vs. a gradual change) that can cause a slight upset... we've been dealing with this since like FS2002, there's probably nothing that can be done about it. Virtually every weather addon that's ever tried to fix it has failed. Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com

August 26, 200916 yr Only thing REX wont do is give you the average winds for the flight (unless I'm missing something) but must admit looks brilliant and I don't get the 'madness' of ASA in it.Saying that I found ASA works ok for me using fsuipc in fsx and turning off the DWC feature... most of the time. It's ok using fs9 by the way.It does take an age to download but I'd add the 'with media' to the order as that arrives in a few days post from Oz (better than my local snail mail lol)I ran out of links trying to download one part as it kept going to the Mediafire homepage instead of the file but managed it in the end using the fs2go thingy. ADD the media though would be my advice, just in case. Also untick landing lights on the options or you might be 'in the dark' at night.John Ellison
August 26, 200916 yr Another problem is you can't import the winds aloft into FSBuild as is possible with AS6/ASX. For the short legs not a big issue but for transatlantic flying quite a problem. Someone has a workaround for this?
August 26, 200916 yr To everyone who is having issues with ASA and the MD-11 PMDG getting random airspeed spikes, I do not have this issue. I used to with ASX and the first release of ASA. But after some tweaking of the ASA settings, the airspeed and altitude spikes went away. Everything is smooth sailing so far. When you are using ASA as your primary weather engine, you need to consider what settings you have. Yes, every single one of them can have a major impact on how FSX responds. I would also suggest to anyone who has ASA to make sure you get Service Pack 1 to ensure you have the latest fixes. Here are some settings to consider with ASA to get a handle on the wind spikes:General Options:Dynamic Rate of Change - Towards a lower percentage, mine is set to 30%Cloud Options:Minimum & Maximum Cloud Turbulence - Never take your Maximum anywhere near 100% as you will get some really terrible spikes. I have my minimum set for 0% and the Maximum set for 25%. This lowers the intensity at which Turbulence will affect the aircraft model. ASA seems to amplify the affects of turbulence a little too much during the simulation.Wind Options:Enable Direct Wind Control & Smoothing - Checked. This is especially important when looking for correct wind changes and no sudden spikes.Wake Turbulence Strength - 25% or close to thisMinimum & Maximum Wind Turbulence - This is the same as the cloud turbulence, 0% and 25%. No more or your going to get unrealistic amounts of micro bursts, which is basically what you guys experience, :( .Minimum & Maximum Wind Shear - 0% and 25%, respectively.Automatic Thermal Generation - 25%Terrain Based Up & Downdraft Generation - 25%Maximum Downdraft Rate - 50 fpm appx. This is VERY important to get rid of the annoying altitude changes.Maximum Updraft Rate/Thermal Rate - 50 fpm appx. VERY ImportantVisibility Options:This section isn't that big of a deal, however, I recommend you check Disable Haze Layer and Enable Visibility Graduation and Smoothing.Remember to click the green "Save and Apply" button at the bottom right of the ASA screen. That pretty well covers the settings to where you will want them to be to get rid of the sudden airspeed and altitude spikes associated with the PMDG MD-11 and ASA. This will also help any other addon aircraft you have with ASA. Once again, these settings work best for me and I enjoy smooth, but correct turbulence simulation. Some settings may need to be changed depending upon your own liking and what bests suits your flight sim configuration.Hope this helps!CapP,As far as importing the winds aloft into FSBuild, are you referring to ASA or the REX Weather Engine? I get winds aloft from ASA with no problem in all of my flight plans in FSBuild.
August 26, 200916 yr Better still, a simple tweaking of registered fsuipc works wonders for asa and fsx - As for DWC, that has been messed up as regards ground condition reporting since b431 build. No point in having ground conditions reported the same as the flight level ones as they rarely bear any resemblence to eachother.I never have been able to use the planning part of FSBuild - must be daft as I just can't see how to do it but then I am a country bumpkin lolol.Anyway I just get the weather from asa for the route planning then use rex.John Ellison
