August 28, 200916 yr This was posted as a special offer for those who do not use O&O Defrag or wish to upgrade their version (either way) for 19.95This is not meant to be spam .. its a legitimate offer and a good price for the software which I have absolutely no ties to financially or otherwise=========================Hi guys,My name is Andreas Blaeser, I am working with O&O Software. I want to thank Nick, that he brought the problems with O&O Defrag 10 Pro to our attention. That was a great help to make O&O Defrag even better. It's been quite a while since I found the time to visit simviation.com, but I can see that the link to our expired special offer for O&O Defrag 8.6 + O&O Defrag 10 is still in use. I would therefore like to give all simviation members (or other sim users) who are still using O&O Defrag 10 Professional Edition, or who are not using O&O Defrag at all, the opportunity to buy O&O Defrag 11 Professional Edition at a special price, to get the maximum out of their FSX machine. That special offer is: O&O Defrag 11 Professional Edition for US$19.95 (instead of 49.95). The offer is valid until August 31st, 2009.Please use the following link to purchase the special offer:https://shop.oo-software.com/36/uurl-be5zv494tzThank you all for your kind words about O&O Software.Take care and many happy landings.Andreas BlaeserE-Commerce ManagerO&O Software, Berlin, Germany ============================================Thanks for the heads up. I bought it yesterday. Truly a great deal. I like the way it works OVER Ultimate disk. This deal seems like a no-brainer.Stan
August 28, 200916 yr djt01: gee I wonder how optical drives that run on 1/10th the speed manage to keep up on the Xbox 360 when you seem to need to defrag... think about it.... before you speak...
August 28, 200916 yr My understanding is the info is read off the disk and loaded into ram for the Xbox..could be wrong...I have one but never really thought about it LOL. I only play Ace Combat on it and have to admit it "looks" better than FSX... :)Larry Larry Falcone No matter where you go............... ...................there you are............ Buckaroo Banzai

August 28, 200916 yr It is nothing but snake oil... if a texture doesn't load it's not because the hard drive wasn't fast enough, it's because there was no RAM to spare... :) But it will help in the initial load. I use Perfect Disk.. it's about a million times faster than O&O....especially after the first run. You're an idiot.-jk
August 28, 200916 yr I'd rather be an idiot than a clueless follower. That depends on who one's following:You certainly have no credibility whatsoever here. Or anywhere else I suspect. The people I "follow" have the credentials to put you to shame. It's all about knowing what's real and what's garbage. And what you post is almost always the latter. Listen to the right people. Most here are smart enough to do that. I think I've been around the block a few more times than you laddie. When you learn more about your hobby you'll figure out what's wrong with most if not all of what you've posted here.-jk
August 28, 200916 yr Can anyone point me to some objective evidence that defragging actually makes a noticeable difference, because I am sceptical and think a lot of the perceived improvement is placebo.
August 28, 200916 yr Can anyone point me to some objective evidence that defragging actually makes a noticeable difference, because I am sceptical and think a lot of the perceived improvement is placebo.Tingoose,The evidence is available and I'll try to find it later when I have more time. But FSX has over 100,000+ files that are best organized alphabetically. It also defrags the MFT. And there is a windows optimization guide that works with O&O and uses the layout.ini file in this process and I as far as I know there is no other defrag utility that will offer this functionality.I'm sorry this is so vague right now but like I said I need more time to find more of what I think you're looking for.But I assure you this is not just "snake oil". It's "file organization for a massively overloaded file system (FSX)"-jk
August 28, 200916 yr Can anyone point me to some objective evidence that defragging actually makes a noticeable difference, because I am sceptical and think a lot of the perceived improvement is placebo.I'm definitely no expert, but I consider anything that will help speed up the loading of files during your flight has to be a good thing. The stutters that come when my hard drive is loading files for FS9 does cause some stutters and defragging is known to speed up the reading of files from the hard drive.
August 29, 200916 yr Seems to me that an xbox would load from the disc what it needed. I imagine the disc/dvd/cd is "already" defragmented and put into some sort of order the game/xbox software can recognize easily thereby eliminating any issues a fragmentation from a HARDDRIVE which is constantly written too, would have. Also most Xboxes already have a harddrive and some games require it to run. I would think that the games are loading stuff onto the harddrive as main mem is not big enough. I would think the HD is being used as a swap file or somesort. But again, I don't pretend to be an expert on xbox internals... :) It works, all I need to know.
