Start locks after shutdown

Featured Replies

Is there a way to get the start locks applied once the engines are down?? The tutorial flight saves the aircraft with the props in the feathered position, and so there is no way to start the engine. I admit I haven't been able to get through the entire process, as the bulk of the information I'm reading is under the guise of the props already being in the start lock position. Jon

Jon,If you attempt to load the tutorial from the free flight menu, it will mess the saved state up. Make sure you're loading the tutorial after you've already loaded an initial flight (The default ultralight for example). The tutorial flight has the props saved on the start locks, but if you attempt to load it from the free flight menu, they'll be feathered like you mentioned. Now all that said, you can indeed get the props on the locks when they are feathered and shut-down. Move the power levers into reverse, then use the unfeather switch (Right below the levers). I believe they only stay in that position for about a minute, so you'll need to hurry somewhat. If you do this and still can't start them, make sure they aren't feathered again.

I am surprised you haven't noticed the billion posts on this subject. On engine shutdown, pull power levers into reverse when RPM drops below 50%.Before starting engines that have feathered props, use the unfeather pumps. It takes a minute or so, so visually confirm before starting. If not on the locks, they will feather themselves in about two minutes.Edit: Mike beat me.

Try this:- press STOP left engine on overhead- pull the left power lever in BETA range after the RPMs drop below 50- same as above for right engine

I apologize. I don't know why I didn't search better on them. The bulk of the posts I was reading pertained to shutting down the engine and then restarting with the start locks already in play, or shutting down and applying the blades in the start lock position. Obviously I failed in my thoroughness of reading. I did at least find out independently WHY the J41 wouldn't start thanks to the original start-lock post....Again, my deepest apologies for adding another one of "those posts", as I know repeat topics generally create hand shaped red-marks on peoples foreheads and forehead shaped imprints on desks.
