Best gaming laptop for fsx for under $2500

Featured Replies

Hi. I want to get a good gaming laptop for under $2500 that will run fsx with no problems. I usually fly in the NYC metro area. Is either Alienware or Asus any good for this?

Thats gonna be tough for under 2500. I find Alienware is overpriced. Take a look at ibuypower.com. That is where I got my desktop, and I am very happy.

My recommendation is to check out this link on gaming laptops: http://www.laptopmag.com/buying-guide/laptops/gaming.aspx. It describes what should be in a laptop for the best gaming performance. It also includes a link to several laptops that meet their specs for gaming. The Alienware M17 runs for about $2K. Any "gaming" laptop should run FSX without any problems.Best regards,Jim Young

I have Dell XPS M1730 Intel Core 2 Extreme (2.8GHz), 4GB RAM, nVidia GeForce 8700MGT, Soundblaster X-Fi, 120GB solid state HD, 250GB SATA 7,200 rpm. This ran FS9 to my satisfaction (smooth flying usually never dipping below 25fps with max settings on all sliders that matter). It also ran FSX, but honestly not to my satisfaction - in order to obtain smooth flying, I had to give up more eye candy than I wanted (and i'm not that picky about eye candy), and forget about it when skies were overcast...ughh. I should also mention that I always run a WideFS configuration so there were no addons on my FS system other than the scenery related usuals and Ultimate Traffic - ASA, FlightKeeper, and all those other goodies on another machine. But, in another thread in this forum, you'll see that I just purchased a desktop to replace it based on the advice from folks in this forum - they know what they're talking about! My input would be that unless you really need the laptop for mobile use for other purposes, I would go desktop. You definitely get more bang for buck with a desktop over a laptop.Having said that, the XPS laptop I have I bought not quite a year ago for about your budget. Anything you would get now in that range would certainly be 1yr worth 'better', and yes it will run FSX...but, I would caution expectations. Laptops have the 'mobile' version of everything. In my case for example, the 8700GT - compare the desktop 8700GT with the laptop top 8700MGT and wow...what a difference. Also, w/out really big bucks, hard to get a decent FSB in a laptop.Bottom line though, yes, the laptops out there in your budget should run FS9 'very nicely', and FSX 'adequately' - and of course, that's quite subjective based on personal preference to flying experience as well as addons, etc...you get the idea.Happy shopping!Joe

Gateway P7805u (refurbished for $750 from Tiger Direct upgraded with a T9900 3.06 Core 2 Duo for $450. Excellent laptop for FSX for $1200! DAB

This really depends on what your expectations are. If you expect to be flying in the NYC area with any kind of add-ons,complex plane, with the sliders past low-medium, with any kind of weather...you'll probably be in the -teens for FPS(max). Keep in mind that people with the fastest desktops along with the fastest overclocks are just barely keeping it smooth in dense areas with all the add-ons.

HP will be the first to introduce a laptop with the Intel i7 cpu. Should be out in about a month or so. But even with that I don't think you can run FSX on a laptop full out. Heck, most can't do it on a desktop without dumping buckets of $$ at it.Clutch

Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.
