Which of these two video cards is fastest for FSX

Featured Replies

I am looking at these two cards and I can't figure out which one will be faster for FSX. I'm not worried about the price as they are fairly close. One has more memory, the other appears to have faster memory. I have read that the extra memory is useless for FSX because it is CPU bound.Option 1BFG Tech BFGEGTX2852048OCE-BAT GeForce GTX 285 2GB 512-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Limited Edition ... - RetailChipset Manufacturer: NVIDIACore Clock: 666MHzShader Clock: 1512MHzStream Processors: 240 Processor CoresMemory Clock: 2322MHzDirectX: DirectX 10OpenGL: OpenGL 2.1DVI: 2 Model #: BFGEGTX2852048OCE-BA Option 2BFG Tech BFGEGTX2851024OCFUBE GeForce GTX 285 1GB 512-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - RetailChipset Manufacturer: NVIDIACore Clock: 712MHzShader Clock: 1620MHzStream Processors: 240 Processor CoresMemory Clock: 2664MHzDirectX: DirectX 10OpenGL: OpenGL 2.1HDMI: 1 (via Adapter) Model #: BFGEGTX2851024OCFUBE

Higher clocks always are better. More video RAM will have zero impact on FSX performance, or any other game for that matter. More than 1GB RAM and with current games, anyway. Always subject to change in the future.

This is true unless .............you run at resolutions higher than 1920X1200.Here is a great article that looks at this topic:http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/graphi...-4870,2428.html

I'd go with the 1 gb card.I'm still waiting for the GTX285 to "go away" :) seems like it's been top dog for FS for a while now. Waitin for the next one!

The article you've referenced corroborates my earlier statement as there is no appreciable difference in performance with 2GB VRAM, even @ 2560x1600. Perhaps if one wished to run SSAA in conjunction with such a high resolution, an appreciable difference could be measured.

Since my system died yesterday, I have been "forced" to purchase all of my new hardware. I went with the BFG 1GB card. At the last minute, I started to think about the ATI 5871's but they all went out of stock in a few hours. I'll do the GTX285 for now and I will have an upgrade to look forward to in a year or so. Anything in the I7/GTX285 realm will be a major upgrade for me from my current rig anyway.

I don't think it will matter for FSX. FSX can not access all that memory anyway.
