That looks pretty dandy and also what I'd like to do too! However, I'm waiting for new monitors to be released with a thinner "frame".As for overclocking the i7 920, this is what I did with my Asus P6T V2 Deluxe Mobo and it's rock solid running at 3,8 GHzAi Overclock Tuner => ManualIntel Speed Step Tech => DisabledIntel Turbo Tech => DisabledCPU Ratio => AutoBCLK Freq => 190 (= 3800 MHz)PCIE Freq => 100DRAM Freq => DDR3-1523MHzUCLK Freq => AutoQPI Link Data Rate => AutoVoltages-----------CPU Voltage => 1.25CPU PLL Voltage => 1.80QPI/DRAM Core Voltage => 1.25DRAM Bus Voltage => 1.64CPU Differential Amplitude => 800mV... all other voltages to Auto
Thanks Krister, I'm anxious to overclock. What was your frame rate before vs after?

Actually I don't know yet since I just built this new system and haven't had the time to install fs9 and fsx yet! Hopefully I can give some answers tonight if I am able to find drivers that work for my Saitek yoke and pedals (haven't searched yet).

Without my request for further information this thread would've been inundated with Nvidiots claiming b.s. I simply stated his demonstration of superior performance from ATi hardware was likely to summon these Nvidiots. Nonsense statement of the day. The 5870 is faster than the GTX 285, no matter how you want to spin it. Check my sig BTW, I own a 285 so no fanboyism here. "If it's faster"No, it is faster. Look at the results."ATI finally caught up...it's about time" Talking%20Ear%20Off.gif

Hey guys!I was just doing some research on the Radeon 5870 vs GTX 285 comparison and came across this site. I'm a system builder in the Mid West and enjoy playing FSX when ever I can and always try it on every gaming computer that I build-just for fun! Well, over the past 45 days, I've tested the folowing video cards as follows:ATI Radeon 4670, 4770, 4850, 4870Nvidia GTX 260, 275, 285I used Intel Core i7 860's and 920's overclocked to 3.8GHz and 4.2 GHz and AMD Phenom II X4's overclocked to 3.6GHzIntel's performance over AMD was the champ. (No kidding?)The ATI cards felt like a "second class" experience. However, The GTX 260-275 were very good, but the 285 was a notch better and provided the best visual performance. It's important to note that I was also using the Real Environment Extreme (REX) scenery as well. Nvidia graphics looked more crisp and realisitc on my 50inch Plasma and 42inch LCD than ATI's; especially the colors and textures.Even though some people feel that FSX's performance is limted more by the CPU versus the GPU, I have to disagree, as the GPU has had a profound visual effect on the realism and crisp motion (FPS) in high detailed areas, such as major cities and airports. Perhaps this is due to the REX plugin? If all goes as planned, meaning if I'm able to find a 5870 for sale :( ; I should have my 5870 computer developed by late next week and will be back on here to share my performance benchmarks and experience. :( Thanks for all of your feedback on the 285 and 5870, as it was very insightful. Thanks,Coolermaster HAF 922Intel Core i7 860 4.0GHzEVGA P55 FTWCorsair 4 Gigabytes DDR3 1600MHzPNY GTX 285 Corsair H50 Liquid Cooling480GB Raid 0 Array (3 160GB Seagate, 7200rpm Hard Drives)Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit

Has anyone else noticed the return of scenery and general graphics degradation with the new drivers? The first thing I noticed when I installed the new ones was that my lettering in the FSUIPC message box (like the ATC box) was much dimmer and less well defined, like the lettering with my nVidia cards. And no significant increas in frame rates either.I've uninstalled them and gone back to the one's that came on the CD and have had no trouble since then.

HiPretty new to all this but have fitted an HD5870 and wondered if anyone was having difficulty in getting the 3 monitor option established? 2 monitors work fine but the third will not run. I notice that there is a line of thought taht says a powered DP to DVI adaptor is required and not just a passive one as I am trying to run now. The powered ones are about

You need the powered adapter.
Hi Itchy,Yes, the trick is getting a powered adapter. A passive adapter will not let you connect 3 monitors (I tried and had the same problems as you). I bought mine through Dell...they're not cheap as adapters go. I'm no engineer but my understanding is that the Display Port technology is what makes the whole 3-display thing possible (something to do with adjusting & syncing clock speeds). A passive adapter only changes the plug. While you will get a picture, the 5870 can't match it with the other two displays at the same time resulting in 2 out of 3 displays working.Future ATI cards (the 6 monitor version) will be all display port.

Anyone tried a GTX295 ?I am curious how they do against the ATI 5870.

The same as a GTX 285as a matter of fact, 1/2 of the 295 is quite useless to FSX because all you are using is 1/2 the 295 cardThe 5870 has advantages in MM/resolution but you give up IQ (ie; shimmer) to obtain the same result as a 285 therefore I consider the cards equal but still would not use the 5870 for FSX because I have no use for hi res MM and I demand top end IQ without the perf hit

The 295 is a dual GPU card. FSX cannot utilize cards in SLI mode, hence FSX will only utilize one of the GPUs on the card and the memory for that GPU. The second GPU and memory will be of no use for FSX.

Thanks Ulf.That means that I will buy myself a GTX285 card.
