More realistic landing lights in FSX

Recommended Posts

Hi,Does someone know of a good landing lights replacement for FSX since I find the default light beam produced by the landing lights almost makes it harder to see at night with it's nearly white "triangle".Thanks in advance for any input!

All I know of is the Lotus L39...Not even shockwave's lights project on the ground correctly...

Hi Richard,Ive attached an image below of a comparison between the default spotlight.bmp and one that i made. The one on the left is the default one. I agree that the hazy effect that it causes makes it harder to seein some cases. If you would like to try the one i made, PM me your email and ill send it as an attachmentfor you to try. :( spotlightbitmap.jpgDavid.

VRS' F-18E for FSX is also going to have Lotus-style lights. -Alex
I'd like to see that.

Thanks for the input guys!I tried the Shockwave lights but I had so much problems with them with the 3rd party a/c I fly so even though the effect was great I decided to go back to the default. The Lotus L39 lights look very good but they are only offered as part of the Lotus L39 product or could you buy them separately as a stand-alone product?David, would very much like to try out your landing lights so will send you a PM!

Here ya go. http://vrsimulations.com/forums/phpBB3/vie...?f=1&t=2071Scroll down towards the bottom of the page and look for the post mentioning "landing lights of the Lotus L-39". Unfortunately, if you're not a FS9 VRS F/18E owner or haven't registered in their forums, you'll NOT be able to see the incredible FSX screenshots.

Here are a few images I took of the L-39 landing lights in action, at Coff's Harbour Australia and Innsbruck Austria at night:3D light effecthttp://www.imagebam.com/image/4efb1757266162Different perspectivehttp://www.imagebam.com/image/86be5d57266166Side rain effecthttp://www.imagebam.com/image/7fa4ba57266207Objects lit up in snow effecthttp://www.imagebam.com/image/9e4fa057266209Long range of lightshttp://www.imagebam.com/image/330c5957266210Wide width for peripheral visionhttp://www.imagebam.com/image/4e27b257266229Side snow effecthttp://www.imagebam.com/image/38bf3657266239As real as real really is:http://www.imagebam.com/image/364eae57266250andhttp://www.imagebam.com/image/0087a957266252Also, the lights do not get dislocated when viewing the aircraft at a distance when in tower mode. When descending or lifting off the lights increase or decrease area covered and intensity. It lights up any scenery within range exactly as the headlights in your car does.At this time I think perhaps Lotus has a corner on the night hyper-realism market unless someone else can find another way of doing it. Amazing realism without a frame rate hit.Stephen

The only downside to that style, and it's minuscule, is the "stepping" that occurs as you approach the ground. -Alex
