fs9 aircraft

Hi everyoneIs it possible to make some planes not show-up because of adding too many?My default de Havilland Dash 8-100 isn't showing up, on the list of planes once fs is loaded.Everything seems fine with the sim.I've noticed the last few planes I put in gave me some troubles with showing on the list of available planes.I messed around with the aircraft.cfg and got some of those to show.I figured maybe I've added too many, and someone could give me some good advice. Is there a recommended number of planes not too exceed, and if one does exceed the recommendation, will they encounter troubles? Thanks for any help.

Have a look at the "sim=" entry and make sure it points to the correct *.air file, ditto for the "model=" entry, make sure it references the correct model. Having either of the two wrong can lead to the aircraft being missing in the aircraft list. Other than that, I'm out of ideas for now :)

Cheers,

Mack

There are three default AI aircraft in FS2004 the 'dh_dash8_100, the 'md_83 and the 'Piper_PA28_180.These do not show up in the list since they cannot be flown by thr user directly. To check the sort of aircraft you are looking at, open the *.air file for that aircraft and examine item 105 near the top of the list.Aircraft Type = 0 means a normal aircraft, Aircraft Type = 1 means a helicopter and Aircraft Type = 2 means an AI arcraft.Regards, Ted.

Thanks Mack I'll give that some attention.

Thanks TedI didn't know AI aircraft didn't appear on the select list.Seems like I have a few that are on there though.. :( What program do you use to open the .air file?I just DL'd and installed d8hzn_24 from http://www.surclaro.com/download.php?query...arch&cid=18 .It installed and worked right. Are the AI planes suppose to have a folder in here> *:\Documents and Settings\******\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9\AIRCRAFT?I notice some aircraft, in (Application Data\Microsoft\FS9\AIRCRAFT) folders have a state.cfg file and a couple do not.Does FS add a folder to Application Data\Microsoft\FS9\AIRCRAFT when ever an aircraft is installed?AI aircraft no state.cfg file? Thanks for the info..

To open and edit any .air file I use the free AirEd (by William Roth) program. You have the option to "associate" the AirEd program with .air files so if you do that (recommended) all you need to do is click on an air file and it will automatically open in the AirEd program.AirEd can be found here:http://library.avsim.net/search.php?Search...t&Go=SearchHope that helps.

Thanks for the info, David. I found this just a little while ago.I've used it once already.Nice little program.

HiI don't think there is a limit on the number of aircraft that can be installed - I have a huge number of different types (well over 500) installed with no problems other than a significant time lag waiting for the menu to load when selecting a different aircraft!BillWindows XP Pro SP2Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0Ghz CPUArctic Cool 7 ProASUS P5N-E-SLI MOtherboard2GB Corsair 800Mhz DDR2 RAM768MB nVidia GeForce 8800GTX Dual VGA Graphics card2x 500GB SATA 7200RPM Hard Drive650W (2 x 12V) PSU1000GB Western Digital external Hard Drive150GB Western Digital External Hard DriveAll running 245GB of fs9 pleasure!

Thanks Bill. I have quite a few planes in my fs folder.Allot of them I have modified.I'd hate to have to start over. :( Course it would kill some time.. :( .............

Another approach that many of us who have alot of aircraft installed use is to create separate aircraft folders (ouside of FS) which contain the default aircraft plus specific types of aircraft such as Airliners, GA, Floats etc. etc. Before a FS sesssion we decide what we are planning to fly and then copy over the appropriate aircraft folder to FS (renaming it if necessary) - that way we do not have alot of aircraft which are not going to be flown being "checked" during loading of FS. Also "hiding" any aircraft which are AI only will help reduce loading time.AirEd is useful for that if you only have a few to hide. If you have many, I suggest using this program:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...&DLID=64944Hope these ideas are useful.

Thanks, David for the info. Categorizing my planes, and putting them in folders out of the main FS folder is a great idea.I don't really have any issues with loading time, but every little bit helps.I'm not sure what you mean by "hiding"...what is involved with that? I'll have to check out AirEd again.

When I used the term "hiding" I was referring to them not being visible on the Aircraft Selection menu in FS2004.Changing line 105 in the aircraft's .air file from a value of 0 (zero) which allows them to be seen to a value of 2 makes them invisible (hidden). There is little need to have AI only aircraft visible on the selection menu although some simmers do like to see them. I keep mine all hidden.

Thanks David,If I change line 105 to 2 ( Non-flyable) will they still show up in certain flights if I have AI enabled in FS?I have allot of air files to look through.I want to keep as many AI planes hidden as possible. I get tired of looking through my planes list sometimes, and just pick one.. I have too many.Keeping the available list of planes as small as possible is a good idea.

Changing that line only determines if the aircraft is seen or hidden in the selection menu. It does affect the traffic useage at all.The BBQHide program I gave the link to earlier is a fast way to change many .air files - rather than one by one with AirEd.Remember this change should only be made to dedicated AI aircraft - not to aircraft such as the default aircraft which are both flyable and used as AI some times.

Thanks David, I had one AI ( I changed to 2) that was set to 0. It is ai_geese. It had to be dedicated AI. I don't remember seeing that one on the list though. Now that I think of it, it was there..gone now.I had a garbage trowel that was available in a section called (unspecified ). I changed line 105 to 2 and it is gone from my available list now. I still have several to sort through in the unspecified section of the plane list.I missed the link about BBQHide. I only see the one about AirEd. AirEd works great though. Thanks for the heads-up on a few of the default planes.
