December 3, 200916 yr Pitt, you need to try this tweak. It's called "3GB switch", after that tweak, OOM is gone forever!http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtop...6&hl=uservaI also had OOM problems, with MD11, especially on Charles De Gaulle Paris, on approach. Biggest airport in Europe, to much traffic, to many SID/STARS...and BAM...out of memory! Than i did that 3GB switch thing, and no more problems sence then. Frankly speaking i forgot how OOM look on FS9. My Specification: I CAN RUN FSX IN MAX SETTINGS....i don't care about dell, bell, amd, intel, 60000 wats power supply or alien made graphic card....
December 3, 200916 yr Author Well, that's consistent with what I've been reading about this a/c on the forums since its release, which is one big reason I haven't bought it yet. Not quite ready to upgrade to Win 7 64-bit (and reinstall 62 gig of FS9 in the process) for a few more months, so I think I'll wait to buy this until then. Good post, though. Thanks for the info.My OOM's have nothing to do with the PMDG MD11, it's rather a universal issue with all my high end aircraft. I'm not sure if Windows 7 is the best course concerning FS9 (maybe FSX). I for one am not planning an upgrade like that until I move to FSX in another few years. December 3, 200916 yr Hi, guys!Let me add my teaspoon of sugar to this interesting discussion.I also support PMDG with my credit card. I have all their FS9 jets purchased and installed. Now the problem is that, unlike 747-400 (being my favourite airliner), I bought the MD-11 not being convinced. The fact is I'm a 2D panel man and I didn't really like the MD-11 2D cockpit graphics in the screenshots (nothing wrong with it, just a matter of personal taste).Anyway, PMDG is PMDG (meaning: satisfaction guaranteed), so I paid this not-very-small amount of money for the FS9 version as soon as it was out.And then... the OOM problem returned. I did have it with my 744 but hoped something changed (years have passed) here for good.So I angrily parked my MD-11 in the hangar and went back to flying Level-D, Maddog and DA Fokker which all never gave me a single OOM.In October I decided to give a try to the famous '3GB switch', so I've set up a thread on it: http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtop...6&hl=switch .I must tell you, people, that has solved the OOM problem for me for good. :( For the last two or three weeks I've been flying MD-11F (GEC) to and out of Fraport exclusively, having no memory problems.I still cannot say the 2D graphics (especially the main panel) is my favoute in this case. But the complexity and quality of the simulation are enough to give me a lot of pleasure and satisfaction. Besides robotic ######ing Betty is fun to listen to.It sure is. All the cockpit sounds are music to my ears. So much that I downloaded the sound you get while activating IRS and assigned it as the SMS alert in my mobile. As I am not converting into FSX anytime soon, I hope the PMDG team will make their 737NGv2 for FS9 and with 2D panels. So another voice here praising the MD-11.Have a nice Thursday, everybody!P.S. I agree with what Les and dallyborr wrote above: that IS the best autoland experience in MFS.And to Gavin: I love manual landings but such perfect autoland is also orgasmic (from time to time).
December 3, 200916 yr She certainly is a beauty. I can't anything but agree with the above sentiments. I only wish I flew her more often, but I'm one of those who prefer real-life routes to and from detailed add-on airports and she can rarely be found traveling between the sceneries I happen to own (even though I own more than I can count!). Having said that, I just discovered that KLM has put her on the AMS<->SFO route, so I'm pretty sure I know where I'll be flying to this Friday nite ;) Cheers, Mack i7 950 @ 4Ghz :Apogee XT waterblock: EVGA X58 Classified :EK full-cover waterblock: Feser X-Changer 360: 3 x GTX 570 (Tri-SLI): EK full-cover waterblocks : Thermochill PA 120.2: 6GB Corsair Dominator 1600Mhz RAM (stock speeds) : FS9 & FSX @ 1920x1080 on Windows 7 x64
December 3, 200916 yr Only thing, that bothers me, a little, about this "Glass cockpit DC10 on steroids", is the strobe and nav lights. Because they are tooo small. And you can't put those from 3D Redux, because of the flexing wings. But i don't care, if something must be bad, than let those lights be the one. My Specification: I CAN RUN FSX IN MAX SETTINGS....i don't care about dell, bell, amd, intel, 60000 wats power supply or alien made graphic card....
December 3, 200916 yr Make sure you have AA turned off within the sim if it's setup in your video card settings. Having AA turned on twice depending on the video card has been known to cause problems.Ah... You know, I do have it checked on in nHancer and in FS9. I'll turn it off in FS9 and see if it helps. I sure hope so, I actually don't want to go back to FSX at the moment... December 3, 200916 yr My current beliefs on that is a totally different subject but I will say this, we have a few among us that are buying FS products and giving their products/keys away for free. These people need to be found and prosecuted.Dillon, do you know anyone that's ever been prosecuted for such a thing (FS Products)? I've been using computers since before the Internet arrived and think that piracy was always with us, and always will be. Back then such things were spread by BBSs. It doesn't matter what serials/product key methods are put into effect, there will always be someone who can beat them. For the casual user? Sure, come up with methods. You'll stop *them*. But for the others? They haven't come up with a way to stop them even after all these 20+ years. Yeah, I know, a can of worms.

Yeah, I know, a can of worms. They just put Pirates Bay out of business, Microsoft wouldn't be where it is today without Bill Gates draconian copyright infringement policies from day one, and hackers have been brought down with hefty prison sentences. I don't think it's far fetched to stop using blanked serial numbers for products and assign different one's to different user like we do with purchase order numbers. Going out on a limb I wouldn't call the ones interested in FS add-ons your top notch IT techs. Those of us like that are deeper into the hobby and hang around here. I really believe most of the offenders are few in numbers, kids sharing with friends which in turn the situation goes viral because of the internet. All it takes is for one person to give away their product and serial number which would in turn allow 100's with interest to just download and install. Your right about piracy but in the bigger scheme of things there's bigger fish to fry like getting a free copy of Windows 7. FS add-ons are small potatos but then again we are realistically simulating real world aircraft here (if you get my meaning). After 9/11 it would be to our best interest to get a handle on this if we want our community/hobby to survive. With customer tracking at least we can identify a person who has consistently had their products compromised and refuse to sell to them. If Tom can track everyone's IP address on this forum I'm sure venders can catch someone who's product's serial numbersa have been identified on sites like Pirates Bay. The info would extend to purchase order by name and IP address and you can mark them as a repeat offender. Companies like PMDG would have to sell through venders like Just Flight, Simmarket, and Flight1 who better have the resources to track troubled customers as they sell exclusively for the most part. Bill Gates has probably been the most successful, but not perfectly, and yes, hackers have been brought down, but those that release worms and such, not FS serials and cracks.I don't think it's far fetched to stop using blanked serial numbers for products and assign different one's to different user like we do with purchase order numbers.I'm guessing that it would be more trouble than it's worth for some vendors to do that. Of course, not knowing what that entails is why I'm guessing.Going out on a limb I wouldn't call the ones interested in FS add-ons your top notch IT techs. Neither would I, but it doesn't take a top notch IT tech to know where to go to get anything you want.I really believe most of the offenders are few in numbers, kids sharing with friends which in turn the situation goes viral because of the internet. All it takes is for one person to give away their product and serial number which would in turn allow 100's with interest to just download and install."Few in numbers" depends on who you talk with. Some vendors would claim that they are going broke because of piracy. FS add-ons are small potatos but then again we are realistically simulating real world aircraft here (if you get my meaning). After 9/11 it would be to our best interest to get a handle on this if we want our community/hobby to survive. Not sure what you mean about this hobby and the 9/11 thing. With customer tracking at least we can identify a person who has consistently had their products compromised and refuse to sell to them. Companies like PMDG would have to sell through venders like Simmarket and Flight1 who better has the resources to track troubled customers. But what about those whose IP addresses are not static along with the various other methods of obfuscating it? And names are meaningless. One of the vendors you mentioned has had their system cracked. I don't know about the other. Vendors are just incapable of doing what you say at this point. You have the right idea, but the method of what you want has not been "invented" yet.

December 3, 200916 yr Since my purchase of the MD-11 for FS9 almost a year ago it is becoming increasingly more difficult to fly the many (and I mean many) other add-ons I have as they just don't match up to the complexity or realism of this acrft. This is one of a kind, if you don't own it you are really missing out. There is NO other acrft which competes with this one. It is almost a perfect product even with the limitations of FS....Vincent
December 4, 200916 yr There is NO other acrft which competes with this one. It is almost a perfect product even with the limitations of FS.I'm sorry but I disagree. Leonardo's Maddog 2008 is just as good. Might not be everyone's cup of tea (it is very complex), but it delivers a nearly flawless experience, much like the MD-11. Cheers, Mack i7 950 @ 4Ghz :Apogee XT waterblock: EVGA X58 Classified :EK full-cover waterblock: Feser X-Changer 360: 3 x GTX 570 (Tri-SLI): EK full-cover waterblocks : Thermochill PA 120.2: 6GB Corsair Dominator 1600Mhz RAM (stock speeds) : FS9 & FSX @ 1920x1080 on Windows 7 x64
December 4, 200916 yr Yeah, the Maddog 2008 is phenomenal. I have said it many times on these boards, in many many threads, but I'm saying it again. Last night I actually took it into the air and was amazed about the joy it was to hand-fly it. Of course, I have to learn this plane and since I was only testing FS9 performance I didn't take the trouble to unpack my joystick, resulting in some catastrophical engine failures. But it was fun.My sudden pleasure with the MD-80 means I will get the MD-11 at some point in time. I'm not sure when, but it'd be rather sooner than later.
