December 5, 200916 yr HelloI have been indulging in a spot of that hardy FS perennial..chasing the frame rate.(bored with time on my hands)I have been tweaking and trying different slider settings including Anti Aliasing on and off but without seeing any real improvements or degrading of frame rates. However with one exception 'aircraft cast shadows' this setting if turned of sees a real increase in frame rates. The trouble is aircraft look strange without there shadows.Has anybody else noticed this?Do you have this setting on or off?Cheers Andy
December 5, 200916 yr Hello,I'm in anyways not part of a flying circus .. so I stay in the cockpit when flying. So the plane shadow is off.If I want take some screenshots .. a mouse clik put plane shadow ON (certainly if it's screenshots with plane on ground)Regards.Gus.
December 5, 200916 yr Hi Andy. Personally I don't use shadows because I find that no shadows on sunny day are better than vivid shadows on a cloudy and rainy day. On or off, I'm sure it is just what one gets used to by way of 'taste'. Then there is the frame rate issue you mentioned. - OFF -Best regards,Mel

It is all a matter of taste. I have the setting permanently off because crisp shadows like that only appear in very fine conditions. Most of the time where I "fly" using real weather, it isn't like that and in the real world any shadows would be very weak if present at all. Like Gus, I spend most of my time in the cockpit but when on the ground I don't find the sight of other aircraft without shadows at all strange. I guess you get used to what you have.JohnPS - sorry Mel, I see you said much the same, we were typing away at the same time! December 5, 200916 yr Author HelloThanks for your thoughts guys. That info about shadows in the real world has persuaded me, ac shadows will now be switched off. That option definitely does reduce frames anyway(at least on my setup it does)cheers Andy :(

Set it via your videocard CP. I leave the shadows on. It looks wierd without them. December 5, 200916 yr Hi Andy, I have them currently off but I would prefer them on, I just have it like that to save some fps but if you own a current and good p.c then I don't see why you would want them off of course there not the best fx but at least its something I wonder if there was a way to reduce its sharpness but I think its a hard coded effect.
