So would a standard 120mm case fan work??. Also how does it connect to the motherboard? Does the motherboard I have chosen have the correct setup to run dual cpu fans?? (For the Mugen 2)Would this case fan suffice?http://www.ple.com.au/?p=snapshot&inventory_id=44091What do you think of the Corsair HX520W Psu? Thanks
Any 120mm case fan will workit won't plug into the mobo, but rather to a standard 4 pin power connector from the PSU
Ok sorry for the quadruple post but...I have decided to go with the CM 690 case. However with cooling. If I placed the Mugen 2 cooler onto my cpu as normal, then mounted a second fan on the opposite side of the mugen 2, then mounted another fan in one of the roof slots, would this provide better cooling to the cpu?So in that image, the area where the cpu is above is clear, and directly above that, are two roof mounts for 120 or 140mm fans. Could I put 2 120mm case fans on the roof, plus two on the cpu cooler? So basically:Two 120mm fans mounted to the ceiling.A mugen 2 cpu cooler with 2 120mm fans opposite each other facing across the ram and onto the I/O ports at the rear. (front to rear)
The 690 is a great case, my roommate runs his i7 920/4870x2 PC in one and there's *just* enough room for everything. Your proposed cooling solution should work just fine.

EXcellent, thanks alot!! Just one more question, what do you think of the corsair HX520w psu for this system? Also what are your views on the gigabyte EX58-UD5 mobo?

Corsair makes some of the best PSUs out there, the HX520 model is good, albeit a bit under-spec'd if you plan to go all-out on the overclock or if you get an extremely power-hungry graphics card. I don't generally recommend less than 550W PSUs for gaming PCs. The Gigabyte X58-UD5 board is one of the best on the market. I use Gigabyte boards in both my gaming machines. They're great, and they overclock very well.

Great!! Thanks again. I will probably go for the next psu up from corsair. Would you recommend modular or non?

Purely preferential. I don't usually get modular PSUs because I buy huge cases or I manage my own cables so I buy sleeved non-modular PSUs and save a bit of money.

Ok thanks! That's my system finalized. Just need to do a few more things then will post full specs here!

Just one other thing, I was planning on using my computer with my LCD tv in my bedroom (40" samsung) however, would I be better to get the samsung 2333SW+ 23" HD Lcd monitor as it is actually a monitor.

Again a matter of preference. I use a 42" 1080P plasma with the PC in my sig, but I do most of my gaming on a system with a 22" LCD because it's more ideal for the types of games I play most frequently. Any game that requires precise, fast movement is best played on a medium-sized monitor with fast response times at close distance (i.e. a 20+" LCD sitting on one's desk). FSX is a different story though. I'd much rather run FSX on my plasma than on my LCD.

Sorry to bumb this a bit but I have just been able to add $355AUD onto my budget of $2000AUD. what would you recommend I upgrade? Aldo I have decided to go for a coolermaster extreme power plus 650w psu.

Don't get that PSU. Corsair makes much better PSUs than Coolermaster in terms of voltage regulation. IOW: they provide more stable, cleaner power. This will help the longevity of your PC's components and can also have a positive impact on stability, especially when overclocked. If you must spend more money, you could change that 5850 over to a 5870. Also you could get a better case. Something like Coolermaster's HAF932 would be great for overclocking. If I were in the market for a high-end case right now and had money burning a hole in my pocket, I'd go for Corsair's Obsidian 800 D case. Hands-down the best on the market.

Yeah for the PSU I'd stick with Corsair and go for their 750w/single 12v rail psu:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...6&Tpk=750tx

Unfortunately, the TX750 isn't available in Perth australia, however the HX750 is. What do you think? Also, the CM690 case has room for 6 case fans, I am going to buy an extra 3 (3 already installed) and have it running super cool. I will also put an 80mm fan in the vent below the CPU for extra cooling.

Some people here are wrong, the Core i7 supports dual channel memory as well, and also single channel. The difference between dual and triple channel is really unnoticeable depending on the frequency and if you have a really good graphics card, you shouldn't even have to worry about it...
I don't agree here. The tests in the article you linked show that, at stock CPU speeds, triple channel is a few percent faster than dual channel. But push up the CPU to 4GHz and beyond, and I'd expect to see the gap between dual and triple-channel performance widen considerably. There's a balance to be reached between number/speed of fans and the noise level. Having 12 fans churning at high speed doesn't guarantee better cooling...the geometry is very important.I use a cigar smoke test to watch airflow through the case. You don't want dead spots, especially around heat-generating components like the mobo's voltage regulator, the Northbridge heatsink, the RAM slots, HDDs etc. Pushing up the airflow across the Vreg might make sense...but pushing a gale-force blast of air across the northbridge heatskink or the HDDs isn't really needed unless the ambient temp in the room is really high. You want the fans to work in push-pull to maintain airflow through the case. The number of intake fans should approximate the number of exhaust fans, and intake/exhaust fans should be mounted cross-case from each other.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO
