December 13, 200916 yr If I had an unlimited flow of cash, then yes I would get the i7 975 and the worlds best cooler to OC it. The i7 920 is the best I can afford
December 13, 200916 yr Unfortunately I cannot find a store in australia that sells these coolers. However I did find this one:http://www.ple.com.au/?p=snapshot&inventory_id=34231would it suffice?Could you also please look through the list of coolers on that website and provide feedback for which ones would suffice.ThanksLooks like the cooler just below that one is your best bet (Noctua's U12P). Alternatively the Scythe Mugen 2 will produce similar results for half the price. If you want 4GHz on an i7 you'll need to add a 2nd fan to whichever cooler you end up with. That means you'll need to break out the zip ties.
December 13, 200916 yr How would the coolermaster v8 perform? Also, I'm planning on using an antec earthwatts 650w psu. Is this ok?
December 13, 200916 yr One other quick question. I'm deliberating the mugen 2. What type of 120mm fan needs to go onto the heatsink? Is there anything needed to mount the fan??
December 13, 200916 yr Any 120mm fan will work. The mounting hardware necessary would be zip ties, as mentioned in my previous post. I run dual 120mm fans on the heatsink of both of my gaming machines, zip ties do the trick in both cases. How would the coolermaster v8 perform? Also, I'm planning on using an antec earthwatts 650w psu. Is this ok?Don't bother with the V8. It's over-priced and under-performing. The Mugen 2 and C12P will both outperform it. I don't generally recommend Antec PSUs, especially not their "green" Earthwatts line. I only recommend the following PSU brands: Corsair, PC Power & Cooling, Silverstone, and Seasonic. There are decent PSUs from other manufacturers but that's a hit or miss scenario. With the aforementioned brands it doesn't matter which unit you buy, you're buying quality. I run Corsair PSUs in both my gaming machines.
December 13, 200916 yr Some people here are wrong, the Core i7 supports dual channel memory as well, and also single channel. Triple channel memory isn't a strict requirement, but it is a recommendation for 9 series models. Why not have access to 50% more bandwidth and 50% more system RAM when the cost difference is incremental? As others have pointed out, DDR3 designed to run on a Core 2-supporting platform is not ideal for an i7-supporting platform due to the upper voltage limitations for DDR3 on the i7 platform, so he'll be needing new RAM anyway.
December 13, 200916 yr Some people here are wrong, the Core i7 supports dual channel memory as well, and also single channel. The socket 1366/X58 chipset is designed to use triple channel memory, period. I have no idea why someone would spend money on an i7/X58 setup just to handicap it by using only two channels. Just as TechguyMaxC has responded and as mentioned in this thread

December 14, 200916 yr Yeah I made a mistake earlier in the thread. I will actually be getting the corsair 6gb tri-channel kit (3x2gb) @1600MHz
December 14, 200916 yr Any 120mm fan will work. The mounting hardware necessary would be zip ties, as mentioned in my previous post. I run dual 120mm fans on the heatsink of both of my gaming machines, zip ties do the trick in both casesSo would a standard 120mm case fan work??. Also how does it connect to the motherboard? Does the motherboard I have chosen have the correct setup to run dual cpu fans?? (For the Mugen 2)Would this case fan suffice?http://www.ple.com.au/?p=snapshot&inventory_id=44091What do you think of the Corsair HX520W Psu? Thanks
December 14, 200916 yr One other quick question. I am looking at the Coolermaster Centurion 690 case. However I need a motherboard that will allow room for my cooler (Mugen 2 with 2 120mm fans), and have enough fan ports on it for at least 3 other case fans (front, rear, top with possibly side). Is there anything for under $300AUD?Thanks
December 14, 200916 yr Ok sorry for the quadruple post but...I have decided to go with the CM 690 case. However with cooling. If I placed the Mugen 2 cooler onto my cpu as normal, then mounted a second fan on the opposite side of the mugen 2, then mounted another fan in one of the roof slots, would this provide better cooling to the cpu?So in that image, the area where the cpu is above is clear, and directly above that, are two roof mounts for 120 or 140mm fans. Could I put 2 120mm case fans on the roof, plus two on the cpu cooler? So basically:Two 120mm fans mounted to the ceiling.A mugen 2 cpu cooler with 2 120mm fans opposite each other facing across the ram and onto the I/O ports at the rear. (front to rear)
