787 Dreamliner to Fly on Tuesday, Dec. 15!

Featured Replies

I'm dreading the day that I get transferred to Everett for logistical reasons. The drive from and to Spanaway every day would be terrible. However, this is one day I wished I WAS up there if only to see this. She's an absolutely beautiful aircraft, and I have to say, I got a little choked up watching the live feed. I tried to share my enthusiasm with family, but all they could say was "It looks like any other commercial jet". Tsk, tsk. At least you guys understand. :D
Yikes, that would be quite a drive. Having driven around Seattle a few times I could not believe the traffic, even on a Saturday morning. I was flying on FSX while watching the progress of the flight and had the flightaware.com window zoomed in the area where the 787 was but I could not make out where the 787 was in all that spaghetti. I missed the turn towards Boeing Field and subsequently missed the landing by 3 minutes.

The reason for that was worse weather out over the Strait of Juan de Fuca than in the SEA area.

The original plan was to go west towards Neah Bay, and then east as far as Idaho and back, but the chase planes doing forward weather reconnaissance saw there was some crap rolling in. But hey, this is the Pacific Northwest. We deal with weather crap 9 months out of the year. :D Personally, I was surprised they made the Tuesday target, especially after reading the FAA weather/visibility restrictions for the flight that was posted internally with the original announcement of the first flight schedule window. But regardless, it was nice to see the culmination of all the hardships and literal blood, sweat, and tears take to the skies yesterday. :)
