Overclock affects FSX ATC

Featured Replies

I tried overclocking an i7 860 using the MSI control panel that came with the motherboard and found that in FSX the ATC messages (sound) are cut off by the following message, apparently due to the overclocking. Is this just a problem with using a Windows application to overclock, and an overclock using bios settings does not have the same affect since timings are already set before Windows starts?

I've never heard that specific program in FS from overclocking, but overclocking 'may' affect sound...but unlikely. Can't help more in that area.As far as overclocking goes, I'd strongly suggest you read up on overclocking and learn how to properly overclock through BIOS, as you will have much more control over your system and be able to avoid problems.

Some PC makers, especially older systems lock out the overclocking options in the Bios. (Dell did this until recently) Leaving software overclocking the only option. I agree, that is more dangerous, and should not be attempted unless you really know what you are doing!!

MSI Core Center is cr*p in my oppinion. At least on my mobo, P45 Diamond, supposedly overclockers

I'd would definetly go with a bios OC as opposed to a software one in the long haul. Did you run a Prime 95 or similar on the 'windows' OC? That would be interesting to see if it is indeed a stable OC.

Well, I overclocked it using the Bios Cell Menu and the ATC messages no longer run together, so all is well. Except ATC gives some pretty ridiculous instructions for an IFR approach, but I guess I can't blame that on the overclock.
