December 14, 200916 yr Can someone please clarify something for me.DXT3 OPTIMIZED CLOUDS under REX2004' CLOUD THEME SET.Should you have this item checked on, if you have a beefy system? Or will this degrade cloud visualization. Will it actually ADD to the scene by having all 3 types of clouds depicted? If you use DXT3 cloud sets, are they still H.D.?A clarification would be appreciated. I will certainly check the above to 'on' if it enhances and does not take away from cloudscape and quality-of-same depicted. Thanks,Mitch
December 14, 200916 yr Enabling it will reduce the quality of the textures since it's a lossy compression algorithm, but it will cause those textures to use less memory. The quality loss isn't as noticible as switching texture size though. If you have a good system and don't have any issues at the moment, then there's really no point in enabling it.

December 16, 200916 yr I tried using DXT textures and every time I had a CTD in FS..Not sure why but I certainly will not try again.Keith
December 16, 200916 yr If you use DXT textures, than in FS options menu, under graphic, "render to texture" MUST be checked. My Specification: I CAN RUN FSX IN MAX SETTINGS....i don't care about dell, bell, amd, intel, 60000 wats power supply or alien made graphic card....

December 16, 200916 yr Aha..great thanks guys. I cant remember why, but somewhere I read not to use Render to texture in FS as that may cause a CTD as well. No problem though I will try that later. Many thanksKeith
