How to save screen configuration

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,im sorry if this has been asked before, i tried searching an googled it, but did not find anything useful. Is there a way to save the layout of the virtual cockpit (zoomfactor, direction of the view), and 2d panels. I have read that the layout will be saved with each flight, and is restored when the flight is loaded again, but i would like to save the configuration per plane globally.Thank you in advance,Madog

Would mean you

than be up there wishing I was down here"

Hi Madog,For 2d panels, you can edit each plane's panel.cfg file to define size and position of each panel window. This has to be done for each aircraft's panel on an individual basis. For the VC, you could make a new CameraDefinition in the aircraft.cfg that contains the zoom and such, and then have that as a selectable view that you could cycle to in the same way you cycle through the other views for the plane. I haven't done a whole lot with CameraDefinitions, so I can't be much more help there. For more information on the 2D panels, you might want to take a look at my posts in the following thread: http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=269650Especially the information in regards to window_size.That thread has information about setting the sizes for panel windows and such. As for positioning, you can use the 'position=' value, where '0' is equal to the top left-hand corner of the game screen, and a value of '8' is equal to the bottom right-hand corner. So 0 = top left, 1 = top center, 2 = top right, 3 = middle left, 4 = middle center, 5 = middle right, 6 = bottom left, 7 = bottom center, 8 = bottom right. Alternatively, you can use window_pos=x.xxx, x.xxx to exactly position any panel where you want it. The window_pos values are based on the same scale as window_size, so window_pos=0.000, 0.000 would be the top left-hand corner, while window_pos=1.000, 1.000 refers to the bottom right-hand corner. Just remember that when using window_pos, that the panel is placed at that location, based on the top left corner of the panel window itself. Now that you know the values to change, make a backup of the panel file you're going to edit, then start making small, incremental changes just to see how the panel windows respond to your changes. After you've done a few panel windows, you should have no problem blasting through the rest of your aircraft, as most panel windows will have the same values across multiple aircraft. So you'll probably want your GPS to open to the same size and location on each aircraft. Once you've done a Garmin 295 and a Garmin 500, then you'll be able to use the same settings for each other aircraft that uses either one of those GPS's, so all aircraft that use 295's can use the same window_size and window_pos values that you used when you did your first 295, and all aircraft that use the 500 can use the same values as the first 500 you do.Anyhow, I hope this information is helpful to you, and good luck getting everything set up the way you want it. Just be sure to back up any file before making any modifications, so you can revert back to the original if you encounter any problems.-George

George that's good info to have.Is there anyway that could be applied to the pop up ATC window? Not that it's a big deal, but I hate how by default it opens in the middle of my screen. Would prefer for the default to be in the upper left of the screen.BTW, Sorry to butt in to your thread Madog, just thought I would ask while you guys were on the subject.

cmpbellsjc,I know what you mean about the ATC window opening in the middle of the screen, as I also prefer it to be on the left. I haven't found anything in the .cfg files to change that, so what I did was load up the default flight, resize and reposition the ATC window, then I saved the default flight without making any other changes as "new default flight.flt", and made sure "Make this the default flight" was checked. From then on, whenever I start up FSX, I just start it up normally, load up my aircraft and flight plan, and when I start the flight, the ATC window is usually positioned and sized correctly. Sorry if this is information that you may already know, but that's the only way I've found that has any effect on the ATC window. Hope that this helps. :)-George
