December 26, 200916 yr Is there a good book and/or web site which explains the operation and FMS programming for the PMDG 737? Please advise and thanks!Mark
December 26, 200916 yr I have a few but depends on how in depth you want to get into it.Bill Bulfers FMC guide is awesome for getting deep into the FMC (and advanced techniques). While Mike Ray's "Flying the 700 series" is great for beginners (and is the first book I got that taught me how to properly use the FMC in a very easy to read format).Bills book is awesome but for more advanced users. December 26, 200916 yr Hi,I have to say, nothing compares to Bill Bulfers FMC guide. They are excellent. Former Beta Tester - (for a few companies) - As well as provide Regional Voice Set Recordings Two: AMD-9950X | One: AMD-7950X3D | Three: Asus TUF 4090s | Three: 64GB DDR5 RAM 6000mhz | Three: Cosair 1300 P/S | Three: 990Pro 2TB NVME One: Eugenius ECS2512 - 2.5 GHz Switch | Three: Ice Giant Elite CPU Coolers | Three: 75" 4K UHDTVs | One: Boeing 737NG Flight Deck
December 27, 200916 yr You can see samples of Mike Rays 700 series pc simmer's guide here:http://www.utem.com/700PAGES01.htmand on Amazon. His other guides such as the Airbus simmer's guides are located on the same site. The Boeing 700 guide is still $30US on his site. The new Airbus pc simmer's guide is here:http://www.utem.com/arrivals.htmlwhere sample pages are available. It lists at $50.His real world airliner checkride guides are also located in these same areas but cost quite a bit more. If you get one of those you may not need the pc simmer's version. In the pc simmer's guides you'll not only find FMC info, but practical flying practices such as ice limitations with runway conditions, TOD recalculations and some minimal systems info. He takes you through basic airliner manipulation with first the MPC, then using the FMC, and finally a more complex setup. While a few specific sim models are mentioned, it is not developer specific. You still need to know basic flying skills, etc.I found that I learned the PMDG 737NG series manipulation much quicker. This manual also applies to the Level D 763s as well and with a bit of interpolation the older classic 700 cockpits.
December 27, 200916 yr Mikes check ride manuals do not cover the FMC (his 757/767 one has a little info on them, like how to build a 10 mile DME arc). But they cover thing more likely in the check ride (cock pit set up, engine start and landing on one engine for example). The 700 series manual is one he did specific to simmers and the FMC set up.As I said I own quite a few real world manuals and Mike's are great (I have all of his and he told me he is working on an NG manual at present). Mike is also an avid simmer....Once you master that get Bill Bulfers FMC guide (I have the 737 and Big Boeing Versions as well as his 737 cockpit companion). Bills FMC manuals go more in depth with neat liittle tricks and tips (like holding at an off route waypoint for example). A collection of tid bits from a guy flying on the line. Most of wich work on the PMDG bird (and how amazing is that!) All may work but I have not tried them all. Al Stiff
