January 4, 201016 yr I like many will not upgrade to FSX simply because I dont have the machine for it and I have too much invested in FS9.A couple of interesting observations I have made though (at least I think so). :( Go to Amazon and read the reviews for FS9 and FSX, FS9 is still higher rated. I think this is telling because a lot of those people are probably not hardcore simmers, many get it for a gift or are trying to sim for the first time. And generally they have better experiences with FS9. So I would guess that if the "general" public is still buying FS9, then it will be around for a while longer and developers will still make add ons for it.The other thing I have noticed is that even though they still have articles on FS9 in their publications, both PC Pilot and Computer Pilot Magazine have largely embraced FSX and they did from the beggining while a large portion of the flight sim community has been more skeptical of FSX since it came out and still are. If you read these magazines without reading forums like this, one would think FS9 was in the bone yard with FS2002 and 2000, and one would think that FSX runs like FS9 :( Over all, I am happy that FSX was somewhat of a flop since it has allowed me to continue to improve and use FS9. However, I do wish those who use FSX good luck and hope they enjoy it, and if it works for them then that is great. It's all good :(
January 4, 201016 yr Still using both FSX & FS9Prefer FSX's recreation of the mountain west. Looks better and a much greater sense of 3D depth.Wife is taking basic flight lessons with FS9. It's because the addon airport scenery is top notch. L.Adamson
January 4, 201016 yr I have to offer some disagreement to most of the posts here. There seems to be an element of "FSX denial" coming through here. I have used FSX exclusively since May. I believe it is far superior in every way to FS9, graphically and performance - so much so that I never went back. I failed to move to FSX a number of times and once shared the view of most here that FS9 was in fact my sim of choice for the long term. Then i7, Windows 7 and DDR3 came along. From then on FSX requires no tweaks whatsoever. The hardware is here right now for FSX. I see 2010 actually as the year FSX is embraced. Yes, Vista was a dog, but FSX is most definitely not.(*For the record, I'm a heavy flier, cities, large jets, large airports with large frame rates. It is possible with hardware. This is my humble opinion based on my own experience and all due respect is given here and I don't attempt to discredit anyone's view of either sim)What he said....
January 4, 201016 yr I believe it (FSX) is far superior in every way to FS9, graphically and performanceMax, providing that I know what you mean, I'd say you can't objectively say so. Not only because performance is the only measurably better factor when it comes to FS9 (a reason to stay for many, though not for some others including me). I often read that some colleagues here claim to stay with FS9 until their computers can run FSX smoothly. If this was a definite factor to me, I would have switched long time ago. I can afford a good machine if I really need to. The fact is I simply don't find much in FSX to convince me to drop my beloved FS9. Frankly. And when you say 'far superior in every way' I think we people have (which is natural, isn't it) really different tastes and quite different reception. I take superiority as a whole. When I take my FS9 virtual world, absolutely full of quality airports with AES service, my numerous top notch addon aircraft and first class environment textures (not mentioning fluid performance, as I believe some guys must get it with FSX since they state so), that is what I call superiority. I don't attempt to discredit anyone's view of either simNeither do I, of course. I think using both sims might be an interesting idea, though not for me personally. I like to concentrate fully on one thing and take care of it.By the way:I have too much invested in FS9That also is and should be a valid point form many people. It's great we have our beloved hobby. On the other hand I also spent a loooot of money on FS9 addons (forgive me, my sweet wife!). The result is my FS world is as real as it gets and gives me 99% satisfaction. Switching to FSX (which I'm not interested in, I already clarified that) and starting emptying our bank account all over again to recreate all the airports, aircraft and tools I want (not mentioning a new computer)? Thank you very much, I'd better take my wife for a nice surprise holiday abroad... :( . If I do happen to get some extra amount of money I will rather expand my (mini version) home made cockpit, which is what I recommend to everyone as it so much enhances the 'realism' of simming. Becoming independent of mouse clicking while flying, and feeling all the levers and knobs in your hands is the way to go.
January 5, 201016 yr I said it on day one of the release of FSX and I'll say it again...I'm glad you did, saved me the trouble of composing all that careful prose!Amen, brother, I feel as if I've just come home...
