8i - no thumbnail

Featured Replies

I've installed the 8i/8iF and on the aircraft select screen there is only a thumbnail for the freighter. I've copied the thumbnail.gif from texture.8ipmdg to texture.8i and texture.8inormal, and restarted FSX. Has anyone else seen this problem? Any suggestions would be welcome.thanks!dan davison

Dan, you shouldnt need to copy anything to anywhere....Are you using the PMDG 747-400X -8 configuration tool? If so, are you making sure that 747-8i mode is checked?

Sorry, I should have mentioned that. Yes, both the pax and freighter options are checked. I ran the config program before starting FSX. (I tried several times, always with FSX closed).Where should the thumbnail be? thanks, dan

I do not have any PMDG products so this may be incorrect but I was under the impression that FSX thumbnails in the texture folders had to be in jpg - not gif format.

Dan, I'd suggest completely uninstalling the -8 and 400X, manually making sure their folders are gone, and then reinstalling both from the installers. Something's messed up, there shouldn't be anything you need to do to get them to show up in the aircraft select screen.

Hi Dan.This might not be the answer, but I'll tell you what happened to me when I first installed the 747-8I/8F.I had edited the aircraft.cfg files to remove the PMDG House Paints for both the 747-400 and 747-400F because I wasn't using them. This didn't cause any problems for the 747-8I, but for some reason it did for the 747-8F. I couldn't see any 747-8F at all. Not the PMDG House Paint, nor the UPS I had installed. I had to edit the 747-400F PMDG House paints back in. The 747-8F was numbered [fltsim.6] and [fltsim.7] but because of my editing out the 3 PMDG House Paints for the 747-400F, my numbers only went from [fltsim.0] to [fltsim.2] then jumped to [fltsim.6] and [fltsim.7] and there were three missing between them. It is possible that this was caused (for me) by the installation file "knowing" what was installed. But why was the -8I fine? It's worth a shot. The [fltsim.x] numbers need to be consecutive. No missing numbers and no numbers that are duplicated. It could be possible that it's the latter for you, unless you edited the 747-400F somewhat like I did.Mark

Hi all,Thanks for the suggestions. David - my typo. It's a jpg, not a gif.Mark- that's a good thought - I added the Martinair freighter (which should have gone in the -400F aircraft.cfg) but I could have easily edited the wrong file. The Martinair does show up, but I did not pay close attention to which section it showed up in. This was the first time I've tried to edit a PMDG aircraft.cfg file. Ryan - after I check the aircraft.cfg files I'll <sob sniff sniff> try completely removing the -400 and the -8 and re-installing. I have tried a "repair" install of the -8 several times without success. An aside: I seem to have bad karma with PMDG products. The -400 has worked beautifully, but I had to find tricks to work around my low vision (see the pages on the PMDG wiki). The MD-11 can't be flown twice (not consecutively, just twice) without the interior (VC and 2D) coming up gray. No switches, labels, anything. I have to completely remove and re-install the MD-11 to use it again. I lose all the liveries when this happens, of course. The J41 has been too hard to see, but eye surgery last Friday should fix that up in a few weeks.I have chemo in an hour so I'll try to do the changes mentioned before then. Otherwise, if today is the "light" brew I'll be able to try in a day or so. If it's the "full bodied" brew it may be the end of the week. Thanks very much, y'all!dan davison

Mark - This was the problem! There were *three* fltsim.12 entries in the aircraft.cfg. Once I renumbered them consecutively, all thumbnails appeared. There was no fltsim.11 (huh?).Thanks very much for all the suggestions.Dan Davison
