(Raising my hand...)With the exception of the well publicized scenery adding glitch, I have had no observable problems under W7 + FSX.
Ditto - I prefer it to XP64 now - took a while but overall it's better.Vic

HelloI have W764 on the shelf where it has been since trying to get to like it when it was first released.I really want to like it, So what am I missing by not running W764 on my sim machine. This machine (XP64)runs nothing else but the two sims , everything else is on another box over Widefs (XP32)If there are enough reasons I may give W764 another try on the next box I build.

If you are enjoying what XP brings to the table, and do not find anything in the Vista/Win7 stable of features that you feel you can benefit from, then I would suggest there is no need for you to move from what you like. For me (and a great many others) Win7 (both 32 and 64) are rock solid stable. Performance wise, I've seen very little difference between it and XP in both general operating system responsiveness and gameplay in FSX and others. It was this way for me and Vista, too - unlike the vocal reports of people having all sorts of issues with performance and stability.... Vista was always a great OS for me... no problems or hiccups. As a computer geek, I like having the newest toys, so Win7 was a no-brainer for me... I've put some of the newer features to use without question, and I actually did try to revert back to XP for a small moment to test whether or not I could perceive a performance difference. I didn't, and I also found that I really truly missed some of the new additional features Microsoft added in W7, especially those surrounding the file explorer and capabilities of the start menu & command line. In your case, I would suggest that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'm a tinkerer and love playing around with computers, so an OS change and FSX reinstallation is second-nature for me. My head spins with the number of times I've had to call Microsoft to re-register my Windows & FSX activations (*never once been given a problem over it).If and when you engineer yourself a brand new computer build, THEN go with Windows 7. You've made yourself a comfortable nest in XP64 or 32, and so as long as it is working to your satisfaction, there's no need to uproot from it unless you have particular features in Win7 which appeal to you. -Greg

HelloThanks for that input, you are right about the start menu I did enjoy being able to type and search from there, very refreshing for someone who grew up with the command line and so much quicker than clicking through menus with the mouse.I will stop there before I talk myself into installing it again :(

Hello mad dog and Greg,Well, it is interesting to see that XP-64 is also running FSX flawlessly. But I just finished two flights, one yesterday and one today, using Aerosoft Mega-Airport scenery as my arrival without any glitches at all. Today, I landed at Mega-Airport Amsterdam in the PMDG 744X albeit it was already night-time (just after sunset) but there was never any missing cockpit parts nor massive loss of textures in the scenery or spikes etc... Perfect in everyway. I did do tweaking as per Bojote's suggestions and used his shader version 3.0. But I don't use add-on textures nor mesh... yet, just airports for now.So Windows 7 64-bit, with the right hardware as Greg mentioned I think, is excellent. I will continue to expand my FSX installation by adding stuff and see how it goes. I have decided, however, that I will NOT add any textures as the ones in FSX default are already excellent for me. I may add mesh to make the geography much more detailed, nicer-looking mountains and coastlines, etc... I am aware that my system is not the fastest but it is damn good. I am also thinking whether I may still have to expand my RAM before the 1333MHz. DDR3 is discontinued, since I want to get the exact same model RAM as what I have now.

I love flying my "iddy biddy Jumbo"
