Experiences on REX 2004 texture swap load time?

Featured Replies

I'm new to REX and so far I have been very impressed in the way the sim looks now. Only one thing. The process of changing the textures using the flight plan option takes about ten minutes - that is without counting in the time to page through the menus, initial load time of the REX interface, downloading current weather etc. I find that to be a little too long for convenience. It may not be a totally fair comparison, but ASGraphics (part of active sky) loaded new wx influenced textures in a fraction of that time, which was tolerable. Note that I use the lo-res texture option in REX.Thoughts? Is it normal that it takes that long?specs (five year old lo-end system)AMD3800+4GbRadeon XT850Xp 32bit

I don't swap mine every flight, what is there when i start the sim and download weather looks good enough for me. KJ

Around 5min here for me...There is a way to bypass the issue by doing something with the water textures, but I can't remember what it is.Matt

To considerably lower the load time, go to the OPTIONS screen in REX and make sure the WATER files are all unchecked.

Thanks Tim, I'll try it.

That did indeed work, so I assume also unchecking other "not weather dependent" options, like runway textures and such will further help with the load time?

I can't help but say that previously I was a "non-believer" in texture enhancement addons like REX but decided to give it a try while I'm still on FS (new system on the way and the move to FSX is inevitable).I do have to say that the sim looks phenomenally better, and even the cloud coverage as seen from top is nearly perfect now. I don't know how you guys do that, especially as I'm not using the REX wx engine, just the textures and AS6.5. And so far zero perfomance hit. Thanks a lot REX! :(
