February 25, 201016 yr Moderator Anyone besides me remember "curb feelers?" :( One of the very first things I do with a new aircraft is learn where the centerline intersects with the glareshield when the nose wheel is dead center on the line, in both the 2d and VC panel views. February 26, 201016 yr Anyone besides me remember "curb feelers?" :( I do!! One of the very first things I do with a new aircraft is learn where the centerline intersects with the glareshield when the nose wheel is dead center on the line, in both the 2d and VC panel views. That's how I do it as well. Notice the point on the glareshield where the centerline intersects. Turning is another trick. I try to visualize where the nosewheel is in relation to the line. Might not be the correct way but it works well for me 90% of the time. I believe it's just getting a feel for the aircraft over time.
February 26, 201016 yr Practise. Just when someone learns how to walk, ride a bike or drive a car. Practise.
March 1, 201016 yr Usually, the instructors tell us where are the taxi "cues": Parts of the cockpit that shows us where the wingtips and landing gears are in relation to our position. Ed OcampoStaff ReviewerAVSIM Online[email protected]Fly DC Jets
March 1, 201016 yr working in naval aviation during my younger years, there would be a plane captain on the flightline directing you. this is also true at civil airports. Another method is to use mirrors at the gate. Pilots can see the nose gear and park at the right spot. There is an addon I think its called airport enhancement by aerosoft that simulates this.
March 1, 201016 yr with the 747, the nose wheel is basically right behind your seat, it makes it easier to maneuver when you think of it like that
