March 11, 201016 yr I am going to try FSX after sticking with FS9. I have been swayed by the shots of the terrific PNW scenery. Could someone give me a quick rundown on what essentials I should have to go exploring the area. I have an Airplane picked out I just need to know what sceneries I should start with. I will of course be searching for whatever is out there but maybe some good add-ons to get me going. Thanks Andrew
March 11, 201016 yr All you need is a fairly good PC, a nice aircraft and FTX PNW. PNW is all inclusive, it's textures, airports, etc. If you want to add to the experience, there are 2 addon airports for it, Starks and Darrington. If you want to take it further, then REX2 for new clouds, but I suggest enjoying what you have before adding to it as any addon will effect performance Best, Michael KDFW
March 11, 201016 yr Author Thanks for the reply. Thats what I am looking for as far as add ons I wasn't sure how many airports were in FTX PNW or if I need to get some of them as well. I want to fly around and explore that area. Have the airplane already. Andrew

Don't buy and load everything everywhere right away. Start with the ORBX PNW since it is an all inclusive product with corrected coastlines, airports, mesh, texture and landclass. Any airports they have will fit right in perfectly. Add Real Enviroment Extreme (REX) that changes and enhances the sky, sun, clouds and water and the accompanying special effects. Then select an airplane. Low and slow is a great place to start and the Real Air Scout probably the best of that breed. If you want something special, a blast to fly, but if you remember it needs a bit longer runway, give the Lotus-39 a home. It is the most advanced, blast to fly aircraft yet developed. All the rest of the stuff can wait until you have immersed yourself in those things first. Most of all Andrew, have fun!Stephen :(
March 11, 201016 yr Thanks for the reply. Thats what I am looking for as far as add ons I wasn't sure how many airports were in FTX PNW ......Hi I believe there are about 300 - 400 default airports in the PNW package. My undertstanding is that all or most of them have been reworked to some very good degree with addition of various objects, runway placement etc. ALso, I belive Orbx will be offering free airports in the future which are virtually payware quality! (based on what I've seen in their extrodinary Australia scenery). Have funHoward

I still have so much invested in FS9 I am not about to toss that into the recycle bin. I will do my airliner flying on FS9 and use FSX for the GA flying. Maybe in the future I will be able to move all the way to FSX but not yet. Andrew
March 11, 201016 yr I still have so much invested in FS9 I am not about to toss that into the recycle bin.Me too but I 'donated' it all to my son who now has it installed on his comp (one of my old builds as it won't run FSX) so at least it appears to be money well spent :(
March 11, 201016 yr I thought about doing that, but I had enough already. I just uninstalled everything, even though I had a fortune in addons. Shortly thereafter, when I had worked up the courage, I deleted everything FS9 related entirely, cleaned it all out before I could change my mind. From there I got a new computer that would run FSX, that I have since upgraded several times since with new CPUs, faster ram and bigger video cards. The old computer just sits as a backup in case this one blows up and I need to read my mail or something. It was time to move on. No use for me to look back while trying to move forward. But that's me, all or nothing.Stephen
