That's irrelevant. If the game's not done, drivers won't be optimized for it.
Lol, were there ever drivers from ATI or Nvidia at any point

Certainly more so after the release of the game than prior. Or do you think GPU makers can optimize drivers for games with an incomplete code base?

Was FSX ever really

Well, when one IHV's GPUs deliver stable FPS when heavy cloud cover is present and the other doesn't, despite having more than adequate rendering horsepower, what do *you* think that means?

Yes, you have a point with this response and up to the 5800 series GPU's from ATI I always had a sporadic performance hit with heavy particle effects with ATI, not just with FSX but many of my racing sims. With newer game engines like the one CodeMaster uses it never seemed to be an issue. With Nvidia it always seemed that the particle effects were almost

This debate is kind of dumb if you have been flying FSX over the years and paying attention, it takes only half a brain to see.
This response is kind of dumb and it wouldn't take anyone with half a brain if you've been flying FSX over the years to figure out ATI and Nvidia never really gave two chits about FSX in the first place.

You dont have any real backround in hardware do you? Do you always just troll around posting your opinion based upon someone elses opinion to try to open up a fight? What you said is totally inaccurate, NV regularly updated their drivers and included FSX profiles and the FSX bugs and fixes right in the release notes well into SP2.Since nothing much has changed why shoulld they do anything?Try growing up a bit, the internet is no place for two year olds.

So how much effort did Nvidia put into
So how much effort did Nvidia put into "optimizing" drivers for a CPU dependent game like FSX? Could you tell us what was optimized in the driver that specifically targeted FSX?
Enough effort that most all NV cards crushed even newer ATI cards in testing FSX-SP2http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gaming-...-X-SP2,785.htmlEver see any thing like this over at any ATI site?http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_fsx_techtips.htmlCare to show us what ATI did to support FSX?

So you think it was the extensive driver optimization specifically for FSX that gave Nvidia the edge over ATI or was it just because of the GPU's architecture?By the way links to "Tomshardware B.S." don't really do anything to support your argument, pick a more reputable site. So they put up a guide, wow, how about those driver optimizations specifically developed for FSX what are they?
Working on a degree are we?What kind of question is that? You cant even understand basic hardware installation and now you can understand code optimization for D3D API's? ROTFLOL!Go dig up the old beta releases yourself and read the release notes, that was ages ago. I think the rest of us have nodded and all moved on since then.As fars as Tom's, I dont know how you are in any position to discredit any hardware site. And if you can find published benchmarks or anything else to support that ATI did anything for FSX go ahead and post them, no one is stopping you; but I wont hold my breath.

This argument is really getting rediculous. ATi optimized particle effects in their drivers and optimized drivers for FSX when it was released and hasn't updated it again. Nvidia has more support for FSX than ATi, and I have an ATi card. As long as I can fly and get smooth flights with good frames I'm happy. There is no need to say that ATi does x and Nvidia does x. What has passed has passed, talk about the present day cards.

So tell us what were the driver optimisations that Nvidia worked so hard at to get FSX (a CPU dependent game) to run so great on Nvidia GPU's?

Bottom line:Nvidia fixed issues they once had with FSX like AA problems etc. The advanced driver features that you can access with nHancer actually work for the most part in FSX. ATI flat out told us that they aren't going to look at issues with the driver in FSX because FS doesn't matter to them. (stuff like transparency AA not working, no Vsync even in full-screen mode etc)Having just changed to an Nvidia card from ATI, I can tell you with absolute certainty that the Nvidia card has far better image quality because you can use stuff like combined super/multi AA, transparency AA, and LOD Bias Clamp. I have not tested with a Radeon 5 series, but from what I understand you have to enable full blown supersample AA (there is no combined mode like the Nvidia driver has) to get anywhere close to the IQ you get with the Nvidia card and it kills GPU performance on all but the absolute highest end Crossfire setup. You also don't get Vsync basically ever - at least with the Nvidia driver it works in full-screen.EDIT:Oh and by the way, virtually any hardware review site who've tested FSX are full of it - they don't run it the way actual simmers do with the right slider settings, the right combination of AA/AF forced vs. checked in the sim etc.
