Featured Replies

Hi guys, just found sierrafoxtrot KBWI scenery on flightsim after a long search and installed it without any problems, however when I start the scenery in the sim, it will not load. Any ideas? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Myron P.

Not sure which version you have, but I tried to install a KBWI scenery by Matthew Perry titled "kbwik5v2" from FlightSim.com a few months back and got a CTD out of it every time. Never did figure out why. May have been a conflict with the nearby Cloud9 KDCA.

If you moved the AF2 file into KBWI\scenery, try moving it to Addon Scenery\scenery and see if that helps.regards,Joe

Funny thing is that when I first downloaded it from flightsim, the file would not inzip and my system reported the file was corupted. I redownloaded it and it unzipped and installed into the flight simulator 9. All the effects stuff automatically went in the the fs9 folder and the afacd went in to the addon scenery, scenery folder. I'm thinking maybe the down itself is coruppted....I don't know.. Maybe someone can pm me the install maybe? Oh by the way it is the V2 version of the scenery...Myron P

I tried that approach when reinstalling the scenery tonight, and you're right, Joe, it works! Scenery is loading just fine now. Thanks for the tip. :(

It still does not load.... I think I read somewhere regarding a conflict the scenery has with cloud9 KDCA... Maybe that is the reason? I guess it's time for me to do some troubleshooting with this idea.Myron P

Myron,I am one of the developers of KBWI. I'm going to upload a newer version soon (in the next four weeks). I improved the ground imagery to make it merge into the surrounding area (no more square effects) and also created a landclass file for the immediate area. If I get any time with four young kids running about, I may also update the runways to use some custom ground textures (merge photoimagery and the standard taxi- and runway textures). As for the KDCA conflict, I have the Cloud9 version and have not seen that conflict personally. I'll check a little later when I get home and see if it's due to where I have KBWI and KDCA in the scenery library. As for the Foxtrot Sierra site, I guess you all can see that we abandoned it. The only reason that happened though was each of us started our respective families and have been sleep deprived ever since. I'm going to talk to Matt and see if we might get that cleaned up so we can answer any/all questions there. Finally, it's great to see such interest in this airport. Perhaps when I get some more time (e.g. kids get out of diapers), I'll try my hand at updating the airport to reflect the new changes at KBWI or at least help out another freeware development team that may be interested in updating the airport. Thanks,Joshua

Joshua:Wow, that's great! It would be nice to have a newer KBWI. I have been using your older version since it first came out. KBWI is my home base and I live about 7 miles on the approach to 33L. I also use the megascenery stuff for the midatlantic and your scenery blends in pretty good! Thanks for your efforts. It is very much appreciated by all of us simmers!!Airbus

Myron, try changing the TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL setting in your FS9.cfg file to 20. I just tried it with settings of 21, which made FS9 lock up, and 20, which allowed the KBWI scenery to load normally. I believe that this was the original problem I had with this scenery, as I used to keep this setting at 21 until very recently.Hope this helps.

Joshua and John, thank you so much for your replies. Joshua, I think it has something to do with my set up, not your sceery. Thank you for your time with regards to improving the scenery, I also have 3 of my own little rug rats running around and feel your pain...lol. John, I will try your suggestion as it does make alot of sense. My sim is doing exactly what you described yours was doing upon the loading of KBWI. I am currently at work cathing bad guys and will report back in the morning when I get home.I thought this was a dead post, I appreciate your suggestions and help guys.Myron P

Well guys, I changed the TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL and changed it from 21 to 20. I also temporarily deleted my fs9.cfg to allow the sim to rebuild a new one and tried to fly to KBWI rather than load it and the sim continued to lock up. John or Joshua do you all still have the installer just in case mine is a corrupt file. As i said when I initially downloaded it from flightsim I got an error that the file was corrupt and it would not open. This will be my last shot at trying to get it to work before Joshua comes out with the final version.
