Liberty XL2, non-working GPS?

Featured Replies

Hi, I am still waiting on Flight1 support, but was hoping someone here would know the answer ... earlier today I bought the Liberty Aerospace XL2, and it's working fine, except for the GPS. I can't get it to do anything, except for turn on and off. I've tried every button on the thing, and I've even read the manual! Here's a screenshot of what's "stuck" on the GPS' screens:http://img2.pict.com/90/61/75/3211689/0/800/xl2garmin.jpgThat "OK" you see in the bottom right continuously flashes. If I mouse cursor over a button, I get the hand icon, but none of the buttons do anything except for the 'C.' off/on switch. Am I missing something obvious here, or am I bugged. I've not used this model Garmin before (GNS530), but I'm fairly adept with the GPS500 in my Mooney M20J. Any help would be appreciated.

No, Flight1 is the distributor. The XL2 is made by Eaglesoft.

Try going to www.eaglesoftdg.com/forum for support.
Thanks, but I'd looked at those earlier. Quite possibly the worst support forums I've ever seen. The support sub-forum categories are:AnnouncementsScreenshotsFAQ (with about 10 questions listed, and several years old)Discount CouponsEcommerce Purchase questionsNothing at all pertaining to individual aircraft or even just general problems.I might just take advantage of Flight1's return policy on this one. Not only is the GPS not working, the engine's mid and low power sound effects are incredibly annoying. A constant up-down droning ... drives me nuts.

You have to register first before you can enter the customer support forum area...On the GNS530 and GNS430 you need to click on the ENT button twice to complete the initialization process, at which point they will "come alive..."As for the engine sounds, they are recordings of the real aircraft in operation...

Thanks for head's up. That did the trick.

I suppose I can just keep the rpm's up, or I'll have to get used to it. I rather like the plane otherwise. It's a very nice 'low 'n slow' sight-seer. I like the big glass bubble cockpit, and it's an easy bird to fly and to land.

Please understand that the Liberty XL2 is an Eaglesoft Product. Here is a little more about our Liberty XL2. http://www.eaglesoftdg.com/LibertyFT.htmBob Hayes and I were fortunate enough to be flying the XL2 in the shots over the waterways at Melbourne Beach and can attest to the visibility and fantastic low n slow attributes. The sounds were recorded from the real plane on that trip. :( Further to the point, Eaglesoft Development Group is an independent entity which has used the Flight 1 [ESD] Electronic Distribution System since our inception.Flight One does not distribute, or have support responsibilty, for any Eaglesoft Development Group Product.

Wow, Ron. That was pretty rude. I apologize if I offended you regarding your forums. It's just that I've never seen a forum that required you to register in order to view it. No where is a warning given, that I could see, that tells you that you need to register in order to merely view it. IMO, this is a highly unusual practice, and your forums are essentially hidden. My judgment about the quality of your support forums was based on what I could see. My comments about the engine sounds, if that's what bothered you, was also listed as a 'con' by the AVSim review. It seems you don't care much for negative criticism. This is the first time I've ever been told someone didn't want my money. Yes, you veiled it with the "if you're not satisfied" bit, but it's not difficult to see that your intent here was to tell me to F-off. If you'd rather not have me as a customer, I'll certainly oblige you in regards to this aircraft and any future ones as well. Not a fun way to start my day.

IMO, this is a highly unusual practice, and I made a mistake in my judgment.I had made up my mind to keep this aircraft, as well as buy the Citation X, but given your very poor attitude here, I guess I will take you up on your offer after all, and cancel my plans to purchase the $50 Citation as well, and anything else Eaglesoft makes. This is the first time I've ever been told someone didn't want my money. Level-D's support forums are locked out unless you register as an actual customer, with purchase proof and everything. Flight1's Mustang forums, locked out unless you register as an actual customer with purchase proof and everything.

Locked out, and invisible are two different things. I didn't know I was locked out, because there's not a single word stated anywhere on Eaglesoft's site that states that you are "locked out until you register". I clicked on "Support Forums" on Eaglesoft's home page, and saw a very tiny page with the FAQ, Screenshots, etc, links and nothing else. When I click on Support Forums, and I'm taken to that page, then am I wrong to assume that is the support forum? A simple message on top of the page "you will need to register and log in to view the full support forums" would have been helpful. I honestly had no idea that there was a hidden forum. Apparently, from your comment, this is a common practice in the flight simming community? I started flight-simming about 30 days ago. I suspect Ron was offended by my comment that "this was possibly the worst support forum I'd ever seen", and I regret that phrasing. What I should have said was something like "is this all there is?" and someone might have replied and told me to register first. So I do indeed apologize for my poor choice of words. But to reply to me an tell me that my money is not wanted --- placing those phrases in italics, I took to mean "read between the lines, we don't want you", was highly offensive, and in poor taste, IMO.

Ok... point taken regarding the forums. The Eaglesoft website is being reworked and updated... so, perhaps that can be addressed during the update process. Some of your comments, in my opinion, were extremely rude... but I chose to step beyond it. The question you have to ask yourself is: do you have the 'right' to be rude and then complain when a response to your rudeness offends you?

My post contains respect for you the customer and is not intended to be rude in any way.As to registration and login requirements, that is common practice in product support forums and is even present here at Avsim. That is to say, if not registered and logged in, you cannot see certain forums here.I've just completed the task of removing a few vile spam posts, banning and deleting users, and generally cleaning my forums. Imagine the task if we did not require registration and login. In fact, we are considering real name registration for the future if the spam stuff continues or escalates. The sounds issue is one we've heard before. It would seem that some users do not wish to have the real world sounds but some mixture that does not reflect reality. The appeal to avail yourself of our 30 Day refund policy is our own way of assuring you and others that we intend for you to be fully satisfied. In our view, customers can and should be either satisfied by our products and service or be satisfied by receiving a full refund within 30 Days of purchase.Again, we do not want your money if you are not satisfied. :(Edit: Thank you for pointing out the obvious regarding Forum Registration Notice. We've just completed updating our forum with your suggestion here: http://www.eaglesoftdg.com/forum/index.php

Ron, I've sent you a private message. Please let me know if you get it.Apologies for causing this thread to turn sour, and for my negativity towards Eaglesoft's support, and to Ron for misinterpreting his response. My issue with the XL2 is resolved, and if a mod will please close this thread, I would appreciate it. Thanks.
