FSX on 1920X1200 vs 1920X1080

Featured Replies

Hi all,Currently I'm putting together a FSX-slaying rig and I've come to the matter of selecting the display. Can I ask those of you experienced in such matters: Does FSX look OK on a 1920X1080 monitor? By 'OK' I mean is the image proportional and not 'stretched'? I fly VC exclusively so I'm less worried about 2D panels, I just want to know that the view in the VC will be correctly proportioned. In New Zealand I'm finding that 1920X1200 monitors are a few hundred $NZD more than the 1920X1080 range, so want to avoid spending the extra money unless it is strictly necessary.Sorry if this is a newb question, I have searched on the matter but have found only a few answers specific to FS9 and I'm not sure that the same rules apply as in FSX.Thanks in advance all!Mark Adeane

1920x1080 = 16:91920x1200 = 16:10No change in image quality as FSX supports 1920x1080.But bigger is always better (as long as you ask an honest woman :) ).However, I'd spend the money elsewhere if you can!Phil

The view is always correctly proportioned in VC view, so get the largest monitor you can afford, since VC in multi-monitor sucks (you have the monitor bezels get in the way). You will not be sorry!Use a smaller secondary monitor to open 2D panels with switches and knobs that you need to click, as this is always hard in VC.Cheers,- jahman.

I went for a 1920x200 display for FSX as my other monitor is 1600x1200 so both monitors have 1200 vertical pixels. But having said that I do find 1920x1080 a bit small and wouldn't buy one even for a single monitor setup. I got a Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200 monitor for about $550 AUD 12 months ago but not sure they would go for in kiwi $.Bruceb

FSX looks slightly better on a 16:9 ratio monitor (1920x1080) rather than a 16:10 ratio monitor (1680x1050 or 1920x1200). I've tried it on both types and they both show exactly the same amount picture vertically from top to bottom but with a 16:9 you will gain a bit of extra picture at the sides.Although a 16:9 is better for games and films most poeple seem to prefer a 16:10 because the extra vertical space is more useful for everyday Windows and internet use.

Wouldn't the preference depend on whether or not you are flying 2D or VC cockpits and how you wide or narrow you set you camera view?Specifically for "D cockpits, the 16:9 ratio turns round gauges into ovals more than 16:10...Cheers,- jahman,

As an update, currently you can get the Samsung 2443 (1920x1200) monitor to for $437 AUD and the Samsung 2494HS for $364 AUD so not hundreds of dollars difference - shouldn't be too much variation from this "across the ditch".Bruceb
