Win7/Desktop Themes (Aero)

Hello all,This week has been nothing but tweaking and frustration for me with FSX and now it seems this has spread to my previously reliable FS9. Last weekend I installed Win7 and doubled my RAM. I decided to try a flight in FS9 last night since, even with the magic bullet tweak recently discovered, I'm fed up with stutters in FSX. Upon even loading the default flight I was shocked to see FS9 only getting 15 FPS in windowed mode. This used to easily be maxed out at 100. I enjoy flying in windowed mode so I can run VATSIM and chart software while multitasking. I've experimented with window sizing only to discover the behavior seen by others that if FS touches the taskbar, FPS falls through the floor.I have also previously noticed that in Vista 64, when starting FS9, my desktop theme does not change from the default aero theme. Now, however, it does (switching to the nontransparent theme) and I think the stupid taskbar may have something to do with this. I have experimented with disable desktop themes/composition with no real effect. I also run FS9 in admin mode.Any chance anyone might have some insight, so I could hopefully have one version of FS I'm happy with? Thanks!

Did you do a full format when you installed Win7?

Aero theme turning off when starting FSX is normal. You should run FSX on a separate hd, or do you already? What

"I´ll rather be down here wishing I was up there

than be up there wishing I was down here"

Do you have video drivers that are compatible with Wndows 7? You must have the newer ones. I used to run 182.??? and they did not work well with 7. I have FS9 on the same hard drive as everything else and it runs fine. I wouldn't know about FSX.

Yes, I have the most up to date drivers. FS9 never used to disable the aero theme until I added the BP=0 FSX tweak everyone is mentioning. However, I've seemed to figure out a work around. If I create a batch file with the following:

net stop uxsmsnet start uxsmsexit

I can force the aero theme on, even after FS9/FSX disables it. Strangely enough this actually INCREASES my performance.

Well that back, as soon as I connect to VATSIM and get airborne, it pulls it down to about 5 FPS. I just simply don't understand what changed between last Sunday when FS9 was working on Win7 and now, where I've lost 95 FPS.

Weird about the Aero Theme-thing. If you don

Well after a night of troubleshooting (I'm determined to get FS9 back to pre-Win7 FPS for me haha)...I've determined that, for me, the aero theme does indeed boost performance. However, I've narrowed down this HUGE FPS loss to any Feelthere/Wilco product. Very very odd because my LSH MD-80 and PMDG MD-11 seem to be working just great with FS9. :(

Interesting. I had to dump my PIC 737 last week for the same reason. I was getting 60-70 fps upon startup in the 737, buy the time I got ready to taxi, I was down with 8 fps. I flown it since I installed Win7 64, maybe I missed it. My other Wilco (ERJ and Airbus) still work great. KJ

Gosh that's really disappointing to hear, thought there may have been a fix I was overlooking iff I was the only one. From what I've gathered feelthere/wilco don't want any part of hearing about a Win7 fix or compatability.
