April 9, 201016 yr I currently have the following -[bufferPools]UsePools=1 PoolSize=200000000 (bytes)My question is what is the limit on PoolSize? Also what size do you folks use?an observation =============================My memory usage at system idle is ...USED AVAIL1221 4841My memory usage running FSX (sp2) with FlightSimLabs ConcordeX is ...USED AVAIL3638 2441
April 10, 201016 yr I get smooth flights with these settings and fps locked to 26 on my system: [bUFFERPOOLS]Poolsize=100000000 The setting UsePools=1 isn't needed since this is default if you add the Poolsize setting. You need to test different settings to find what setting that work best on your system.
April 10, 201016 yr I get smooth flights with these settings and fps locked to 26 on my system:What is the refresh rate of your monitor set at?Mine is 60Hz so I have frames set at 30. I thought it was recommended to have half of whatever the refresh rate is or am I wrong?
April 10, 201016 yr What is the refresh rate of your monitor set at?Mine is 60Hz so I have frames set at 30. I thought it was recommended to have half of whatever the refresh rate is or am I wrong?60Hz. I've read a lot about that, but FSX runs smooth with fps locked at 26 fps on my system. Can't observe any difference when using locking at 27, 28, 29 or 30 fps. My setings work OK on my system, so why worry.Do you notice any difference when flying in FSX if you lock fps at 29, 30 or 31?EDITED: Sorry! I realized that we are hijacking this thread. April 10, 201016 yr Author my monitor's refresh rate is 60hz, and my frame rate setting is 'unlimited', and system runs smoothly
April 10, 201016 yr 30 FPS lock is best for my setup. Anything lower and I get micro stutters. As for BufferPools .... Im on the fence about all this holy grail stuff. I have spent the last several days trying it with it... without it... then with it... ect, ect, and I have come to the conclusion that my system runs the smoothest without any kind of Bufferpool tweek whatsoever. If I use UsePools=0 I can get a bit higher FPS in CERTAIN areas but when looking at the whole flying experience overall the tweek (for me) does more harm than good and it shows in the form of stutter or a flash every now and then. I am glad for once that I dont know all the technical behind the tweek as if I did I be be able to convince myself that it was a good tweek to use, kinda like when you cook a meal that really tastes like SH$% and you are the only one who likes it simply due to the fact that you cooked it. I dont think the BP tweek is a long term tweek as my experience was that yes initially I did see a change and the change was a few extra frames, so immediatly I think it is a good tweek for me. Than after running it through my test flights and then going back to my previous CFG I find I dont really need it at all. This is my list of changes I use in the config not including the wide screen and light SCALAR changes:TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=60 (Thats it)I do use nhancer and I will NEVER EVER fly with VSYNC set to off and 8xS AA is also a must (for me) One thing that I do that some may not (YMMV) is I use the option to Enhance in game AA in nHancer and then also of course select AA in FSX the ANISO filtering I let nHancer do the work and use TRI in FSX. April 10, 201016 yr Here's something that has not been addressed before about bufferpools - maybe it has:SCENERY AND DRIVERS DETERMINE HOW WELL BUFFERPOOLS WILL PERFORM ON ANY SYSTEM.I can run with an unlimited fps setting without a bufferpools entry anywhere in FSX SP2 except for my densely populated Orbx world.I must have a bufferpools setting or I get stutters in these densely populated airports. The trees cause spikes and stutters. My ideal settings:BP =0FPS locked at 30 (But 40 is silky smooth) This is not important because my system can't maintain 40 fps everywhere I fly. Maybe the nvidia 480 The 196.21 Nvidia driver and Win 7 64 Ultimate.Nhancer with vsync and high quality settings and 8xs. So far - I'm delighted with the performance using a Dense to Very Dense AG setting. It all depends on where I'm flying. Maybe that's why Teak FSX was developed. MSFS
April 10, 201016 yr Hello,I can't find any [bufferPools] on my CFG, should I add it? If so where? I mean after which item? Thanks!Mo
April 10, 201016 yr Hello,I can't find any [bufferPools] on my CFG, should I add it? If so where? I mean after which item? Thanks!MoAdd these lines to fsx.cfg:[bUFFERPOOLS]Poolsize=nWith no settings in fsx.cfg FSX SP2 (and SP1) will use a 4GB pool size (Poolsize=4000000).If you have a graphics card with more than 512MB memory you could try higher settings than the default to find the setting that work best on your system.Original tweak published june 2007 by Phil Taylor here: http://blogs.msdn.com/ptaylor/archive/2007...-week-or-2.aspx

I was surprised, but the new driver helped a lot on my system. With BP=0 I have a big improvement in FSDT KORD with the CS757 and Full AI. FPS increased from 8 to 14 (looking to the AA terminal).BUT now I have the black screen problem after clicking the menu :(

The black, white and combination flashing triangles with BP=0 are giving me epileptic seizures. In between, its pretty smooth tho' :( I'm running th 197.13 drivers as well.
