Virtual Cockpit very dark

Featured Replies

A drawback I've had for a long time that has kept me from using virtual cockpits is that the instrument panels are rendered very darkly on my system. This makes them nearly impossible to use. Any suggestions to alleviate this are appreciated.Thank you.Michael Verlin

Are you using the bloom effect by any chance?

One thing to be aware of is that MS programed a "shadow" effect into the VC display which can often make the VC cockpit display rather darkly. To see what I mean, get into a VC view and slew the aircraft in a tight circle at differring times of the day. Depending upon where the sun is, in relationship to your aircraft, the VC will get brighter and darker as you rotate. You can usually see the same "shadow" effect at night if you are parked near an airport light and rotate the aircraft. This is an issue which has "bothered" many simmers for a long time. It apparently is the same situation FSX.

Hi,I usually set up a smoke effect for a VC "light". This is an example for Feelthere's ERJ_145:(SMOKESYSTEM) <---- square brackets!smoke.0 = 0.0, 32.00, -1.00, fx_vclight,I have forgotten where I have gotten the fx_vclight.fx effect, been using this system for ages and I usually "install" it in every aircraft that has their VC'stoo dark. I switch it on with the "I" key, the default key to activate smoke. Works like a charm and really brightens up the VC.It takes some trial and error and I usually move outside to one side of the VC when testing and setting up the coordinates, so it gets a bit easier to spot where the light patch from the effect is. Regards,Jure

Thank you very much. I'll give it a try.

Hi,Sometimes just turning on the lights helps, even during the day.

Yes, so I have noticed. It would appear that I will have to continue to depend on the old reliable 2D panel.I often wondered if I was alone in noticing this.Thank you for your information. Michael

That does help Jim - sure easier than setting up an "effect" for each aircraft. Thanks for the tip.
