Engines keep catching fire

Featured Replies

HelloHaving just recently got my engines to start with the kind help of some of you kind chaps I was forced to completely re-install FSX and all other add-ons including the J41.Since then I start the engines as normal - all ok. I taxi to the runway but, on starting my take off run, within a few seconds, the engines burst into flames.I'm not very experienced as a pilot (nor a fireman!). Can someone please tell me the usual reasons for engines catching fire. Thanks and regards.

Your condition levers need to be pushed full forward to "flight" before takeoff. If you leave them in "taxi", then a raging fire you will have.

Don't take off until you can press the TOCWS button without a warning beep, see also the checklist.

Thanks for replyingInterestingly, when I was flying the plane for just a few flights before having to re-install, I never touched the condition levers. Sure enough, the levers were not psuhed forward. I pushed them forward but still had a fire in both engines. Is there a function key for the condition levers please?Still lookingfor solutions to my fires!regards.

Thanks for replying Dan - I'm ashamed to say that I do not know what a TOCWS button is nor where it is. Is it Caution and Warning? On the CAP there are only L Beta and R Beta lights showing before take off. Regards

They are bound to the FS prop pitch keys:CTRL+F1 0%CTRL+F2 decreaseCTRL+F3 increaseCTRL+F4 100%The TOCWS button is the small round black button at the far right end of the panel (copilots side). You push it,and if you are configured correclty, there should be no warning sound. If there is a warning, check trim, flaps, spoilers etc.The TOCWS does NOT warn you if the condition levers are in taxi/ low rpm position. Before t/o bring the condition levers full forward, the co should state "condition levers flight". Otherwise you need to get two new engines.

Regards.

Also remember, if you want to tune down the realism and elliminate fires, you can always uncheck the "allow fires" checkbox in the PMDG Jetstream 41 configuration manager.

Thanks for replying - The TOCWS was giving me a warning - and it was the condition levers, even though I'd set them - must not have done it properly.I think I understand your prop pitch key advice. Thanks for your support.

Thanks for replying - that explains why I had no fires in the past. I recall when I originally configured it, I set it for no fires. When I reinstalled I forgot all about the config manager. So I've been flying badly!!Having invested so much time with this beast, realism is obviously key so I'm keeping it set.I'm flying again, thanks to all who kindly replied.Kind regards.
