Win7 x64 Ultimate or Pro. If you *really* must go XP, 64bit Pro then. There is no point today any more really.

I'm using Win7 x64 Home Premium. Thats the best OS I ever used for FSX!

Win XP is great for FSX, but it's aging out as an OS in general. The new Nvidia cards don't even work with XP and FSX, Eyefinity doesn't work with it etc...I would suggest Win 7 as the way forwards, it's going to relatively future-proof you.

Is the 'XP mode' for windows 7 pro necessary for FSX? The price difference between 7 Home and the pro version (OEM) is about $40 USD. Is it worth the additional cost? Thanks.Bob..

XP mode doesn't support hardware acceleration, so don't expect to run FSX very well in XP mode. FSX runs just fine in Win 7 though. XP 64 is a waste of time. It's a niche product with little to no support. Buyer beware.

Just finished building FSX rig. W7x64 is completely stable and is the OS of choice moving forward. I use XP at the office and W7x64 at home. No contest. I fly FSX with PMDG 747-8 while watching 747 related DVDs (Angle of Attach) (ISO mounted image), on Skype while using google earth to take a detailed peek at points of interest where I fly.FSX + Win7x64 + "Hey-sus" tweaks are the ticket. See the following pic for memory usage. Memory "In Use" is really the only system memory actually used by current programs.

Cheers, Scott Ball
