May 8, 201016 yr hello. i would like to ask you two questions about the PMDG73NG1)If i arm the speedbrakes before "Gear Down", it does not opening itself during the touchdown..it works only if i arm it when the landing gears are down.is it known bug..?does it fixable?2)sometimes, the all heights and speeds in the FMC Legs page are deleted during the flight..is it known bug..?does it fixable?thank you very much
May 8, 201016 yr 1) I didn't know this about the spoilers, makes sense to me. Gear down usually occurs before final approach segment and you wouldn't want to arm the spoilers before that.2) There is no known bug in the FMS with this behavior. Once the route is executed and the path forecast displayed it should only change if you change it, those values will disappear if there is a disconnect in the path. Dan Downs KCRP
May 8, 201016 yr Author 1)Gears are down during the final(about 2500ft or something). you should arm it much earlier..2)ok:)
May 8, 201016 yr Why should you arm the spoilers before final landing check?I may not drop the gear until glideslope intercept about 5 nm and 1600 ft (AGL). Depends on when you want the drag I guess. Dan Downs KCRP
May 9, 201016 yr Why should you arm the spoilers before final landing check?I may not drop the gear until glideslope intercept about 5 nm and 1600 ft (AGL). Depends on when you want the drag I guess. In the sim, I tend to drop at around 10 nm, based on stuff I've read that airline SOP usually requires landing config at 6nm. Real life in the Trinidad, much, much closer. Doug Orvis PP-ASEL-IA (USA), Based at KHEF Picture courtesy of Kyle Rodgers
May 9, 201016 yr Past two airlines I've worked at, the spoilers are armed when the gear comes down.Final config at most airlines these days is by 1500' AGL. (There's some sort of international convention on "Stabilized Approaches" that covers this that has been incorporated into many company SOPs.)Gear is usually put down with the Flaps 15 call. The company/Boeing guidance is "Glide Slope Alive" for gear down/F15 but most people wait until a couple miles before the FAF. (Who knows how far out you'll be established?) Matt Cee
May 9, 201016 yr I've armed the spoilers both before and after extending the landing gear and they've always deployed just fine. I've even armed them very early, just under 10,000 ft and then actually deployed them for speed control, they simply return to the armed position and then deploy fine upon landing. Dave Paige
May 9, 201016 yr Author just asked real pilot like you Matt.. he told me that you can are the spoilers when ever you want. From the T\D till the landing checklisthowever, the problem still apears..(Dave-it worked as well at the past. thats why i request your help..)
May 9, 201016 yr just asked real pilot like you Matt.. he told me that you can are the spoilers when ever you want. From the T\D till the landing checklisthowever, the problem still apears..(Dave-it worked as well at the past. thats why i request your help..)You could arm them after the gear was in the well on Takeoff, if you wanted. I was just telling you how two places I've flown do it. Matt Cee
May 9, 201016 yr The reason why some operators don't want you to arm the spoilers until the gear is down and locked is to prevent an erroneous WOW indication from causing the ground spoilers to deploy in flight.Depending on the airplane in question, and I don't know for certain about the 737NG, an issue with the proximity sensors or target can cause an air/ground shift inflight. Depending on the actual arming criteria (RA, wheel spinup, etc), if the handle is armed, the autospoilers can deploy. That's a bad thing.I can think of at least incident in the past (involving a DC-9) that occured for that reason, though I'm sure there are others.
