May 10, 201016 yr I'm having alot of fun with the instant replay option in FSX SP2 but I have noticed a problem. When I play back the video and select wing view for example, advanced animations are not showing. When I land I can see the spoilers deploy and reverse thrusters move, but when I am turning in the air the ailerons do not move, even if I do a steep turn. I know they move in normal flight (not in instant replay). Can someone explain this, or help me fix it please?
May 10, 201016 yr The instant replay feature won't capture control surfaces movement or AI or anything like that. I recommend you try out FS Recorder Module which captures everything and is much better and more powerful than the built in replay which is very buggy. May 11, 201016 yr This is a link to FSRecorder:http://www.fs-recorder.net/A "must have" addition in the opinion of many.
May 12, 201016 yr I have tried FS Recorder but it does not record videos that can be played with for example windows media player. I started doing alot of recording and uploading to youtube so I only being able to play back a video within FSX is completely useless to me.Can anyone suggest anything else?
May 13, 201016 yr In order to record video using the FSRecorder utility you first record a flight using the FSRecorder then you set up your video recording to record the FSRecorder track when you play it back. Here's an example: I recorded the other plane's track first using the FSRecorder utility then I recorded the video when I played the FSRecorder track back.I hope this makes sense to you. May 13, 201016 yr Thanks for replying. I understanding exactly what you mean when you say:"In order to record video using the FSRecorder utility you first record a flight using the FSRecorder then you set up your video recording to record the FSRecorder track when you play it back."But... This is still no good. Let me tell you exactly what I need to do...I do alot of landing videos so I like to complete the landing and then playback the video so I can switch views and manipulate the video how I see fit without taking my concentration away from landing the plane. If I record using FS Recorder, when I play back the FS Recorder track in FSX, can I switch views like in instant replay? Eg. I basically want what instant replay has to offer expect I want to see advanced animations, so I can watch the landing in wing view etc.
May 13, 201016 yr If the animations are not working its because the sim has no power to drive them. When in replay fsx basiaclly submits all the commands you would do at the recorded time, so for flaps etc to work you need power. When you start the replay, hit ctrl e that should have everything running then it should replay ok.
May 13, 201016 yr ... can I switch views like in instant replay?Yes! When you record a track in FSRecorder you play it back inside FSX, so you get all the functionality you would get in FSX without FSRecorder. FSRecorder is not a video recorder it is a flight track recorder, it records a flight track which you can replay inside FSX.In order to record video you need a video capture utility like Fraps or the Replay Video Capture utility which I use to record video:http://www.fraps.com/http://www.applian.com/replay-video-capture/Which video capture software are you using Johnny? Mike Beckwith
May 13, 201016 yr I'm using Fraps 3.03 I think. I do get smooth frames when recording with fraps, around 23 fps.If I use fraps whilst playing back my FS Recorder video in FSX, would my frames drop even more?If so, I might have to change to the other recorder software you suggested.
May 13, 201016 yr ... would my frames drop even more? There's a slight frame rate hit using FSRecorder, but if you're recording just the one track then it won't be much. The thing about FSRecorder is that you can record one flight track on top of another - say a half dozen aircraft flying together - which may be useful sometimes, but the frame rate hit is the down side.If you just want to record the one track so that you can play it back then there shouldn't be much of a frame rate cost. May 13, 201016 yr I use FSRecorder and FRAPS... there will always be some FPS hit with this stuff, no matter which application you use. Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery
May 13, 201016 yr Thanks a million for all the help guys. Will give it a go later tonight. Thanks again.
May 14, 201016 yr Just wanted to say thanks guys, worked a treat. Recorded flight with fs recorder, played it back in fsx and then used fraps to record video. Lovely!
