Running RC4 on a dedicated core

Featured Replies

My ASE weather program is slowing down RC4...especially so on final. I often get my clearance to land while rolling on the runway. This is an ASE problem, but it has been suggest that I run RC4 on a dedicated CPU core. That, I'm told, would solve my RC4 slow-down problem.Does the recommendation sound feasible? If so, any guidance on how I do this is appreciated?zach

who gave you that advice? let windows manage processor utilization. it will do it 10 times better than you or me or anyone else can.jd

It looks like I got a bum steer on core dedication. The advice came from ASE.I will uncheck a "priority" option on ASE and see if that helps RC4 speed-up in delivering information, especially landing clearance.I will let you know.zach

they are smart people, but if rc takes up 10% of your cpu, and you assign one core to rc, that core is idle 90% of the time, which could be used for fs, ase, etc.try it. let me know.make a log, let me see why your clearance is so late. i hope you have turned off pre-recorded chatter, unchecked display text.jd

DWC is the case... tick it off and see how it will go.

When ASE DWC is OFF, I cannot get ASE to inject the weather into FSX.When DWC is ON, I get perfect weather, but DWC slows RC4.I have turned off ASE priority option. That has given RC4 a slight boost. It still runs slow, but I can now get landing clearance before I land!Again, this problem is ASE, not RC4.zach

Hi Zach,I am using ASE along with RC and do not have any of your problems.Do make sure that you are starting the progs in the correct sequence.I start ASE first, let the weather downloads all take place then I select the briefing button and allow ASE to process the flightplan weather.I then start FS from within ASE.Load FS and get the aircraft positioned at the departure gate of choice.Whilst this is going on ASE scrolling bar will indicate weather downloading then weather depiction complete. It is only when I have programmed the aircraft to the pre contact ATC stage do I start RC.This sequence has never failed me with either FS9 or FSX.Norman Bowman

thanks noirman, that's a good step by step guide. maybe you can add your ASE settings that may not be ASE default.jd

Hi Zach and jd,I have not played with the ASE settings at all.I usually leave the default settings alone unless either problems occur or I think that I can produce something better. That goes for al lof my add ons!RegardsNorman

Norman,I have tried your procedure, but no joy here.I cannot get ASE to inject its weather into FSX unless I have DWC ON...and this makes RC4 run slow but the ASE weather is good.If I turn DWC OFF, I get accurate weather on the ground but the first different wx station reporting, my altimeter settings are way off and so is my weather. RC runs normal. With DWC OFF, FSX is seeking and posting its own weather that does not come from ASE.This is an FSX/ASE phenomena I am yet to solve.

Hi Zach,It seems that you could be left with the reinstall solution.Reinstall FSX,SP1 and SP2/Acceleration.Test.If all is oK.Add RC 4.3.Test the installation again. If all is well add in your other add-ons one at a time testing after each installation .If you install everything and all is well your problem will be solved. If you find out which program is slowing your set up down, you can then sort it out wiyh the developers. Many of us are using ASE alongside RC without problemsKeep smilingNorman
