May 14, 201016 yr Hmm.. interesting, I think they go in [Weather] correct? its probably linked to the dynamic rate of change.. making MIN and MAX the same I guess allows for consistent weather changes, but not sure, I'll give it a test some time tomorrow! thanks Art!Yes, it is in the weather section. I can verify that it doesn't seem to do anything for weather changes. What it does for me is create cloud layers that fit the Metar report when I start a flight in FSX using ASE. Sadly, I'm having a problem in that the initial cloud display does not change when flying into an area where another, different Metar report applies, and I've started a thread in the Hi-Fi support section of the AVSIM forums. The cfg file change does not seem to have any affect on this problem. Art

May 14, 201016 yr why the picture of Hugo Chavez *******?Thats not Hugo Chavez, thats Mickey Mouse.. take a CLOSE look.
May 14, 201016 yr Well I would not call myself the 'top guy' LOL! I just run the company. The true top guys are the amazing developers on our team who create such cool stuff.I am not an anti-tweaker, nor will I go out of my way to criticize anyone who likes to tweak. It's every hobbyist's prerogative and indeed, the very nature of an enthusiast to tweak. So all power to you guys that do and get good results. My position is that I always try to keep my hardware maxxed out to current-gen PC specs, whether through upgrades or new machines. I believe that a well tuned OS and the right hardware is all I need to enjoy FSX. I have on occasions tried some of the tweaks which are getting folks excited recently but they inevitiably always led to instablity and frustration. So I stopped tweaking completely about 18 months ago and now just focus on using the sliders in FSX indexed to my hardware. Now with the GTX 480 I really don't need to worry about the sliders anymore and just lock FPS to 25 FPS for cities and large airports and 40FPS for urban and rural areas, and enjoy the sim. With the i7 + GTX 480 + TrackIR 5 + EZCA + ENBSeries + nVidia 3DVision goggles it's just amazing how it all just works without tweaking, and it gives me pure enjoyment. I could not have dreamed of this level of immersion even back in 2006.I think that those who are pro-tweaking need to be a little less 'defensive' when there is a counter suggestion that a no-tweaks approach is also an alternative. If you spend too much energy on trying to justify your position about tweaking, it will just cause ill feeling and tension on various forums. Let everyone do as they please and let both schools of thought coexist in peace. Pro-rants about the merits of OS tuning and tweaks does nothing but make those posters appear to be a bit obsessive I'm afraid.I have to agree. I am not sure if there is anyone here that may know why Aces did not document these tweaks? I understand that code does execute with these newly found entries, but I can only speculate as to why they were not documented. Will there be a time when the Aces developers can speak freely? I am sure they would love to chime in and talk about their journey.RegardsBob G

May 14, 201016 yr I wanted to add my two cents, ******* and others that have added so much to FSX, I have nothing but admiration and gratitude for you. :( Like many others who have posted, I made a lot of the tweaks on my mid-range system. AMD dual core 2.5mhz, 4gb ram, nVidia 8800GT/512 Vram, WinVista, FSX sp1&2. LDS767, ASE and Radar Contact V5 beta. I don't get frames in the high 50's, but I do get consistent 20+, now with NO blurriness , smooth operation and almost no stutters. After adding some tweaks a while back I left out some important changes to my CFG, that made FSX a MESS. I then backed out the last couple of tweaks. The problems I had on my system, (maxed out muddy graphics, blurry sky and more), were caused by operator ignorance. :( After reading all the post on *******'s tweaks I decided to take the plunge again and added the following and followed the directions to a TEE.UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=0TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40TextureMaxLoad=512SHADER_CACHE_PRIMED=0UsePools=0SHADER_CACHE_PRIMED=1693458479TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024HIGHMEMFIX=1 ALLOW_SHADER_30=1SHADER_CACHE_VERSION=9872431STALE_BUFFER_THRESHOLD=1024LOD_RADIUS=3.500000MIN_DETAIL_TEXTURE_LEVEL=21 MAX_DETAIL_TEXTURE_LEVEL=21 MIN_DETAIL_TEXTURE_LEVEL=21MAX_DETAIL_TEXTURE_LEVEL=21Today I flew from Anchorage AK to Los Angeles with my LDS 767. This gave me a chance to see how clouds, lots of mountains, city scapes, and water would be depicted with the changes. It was a beautiful flight, not sure I like all the ASE issues, but that is another topic. Anyway I am so pleased and yes I did get 20+fps during most of the flight, dropped down to 10+ as I made my initial approach into the Los Angeles area, since I was on a Sadde Arrival STAR, had lots of time to see how LA would show up, lots of detail with some fps hits.I again what to THANK ******* for some excellent work, thanks man.Bob JohnsonKDTW
May 14, 201016 yr I again what to THANK ******* for some excellent work, thanks man.Hi Bob,Thank you... I appreciate it, unfortunately there has been a 'trend' in the forums lately where some of this 'thank you' threads go south with what appears to be 'The tweak wars' :) its like the inquisition, but they are after ******* this time :) not, the holy one.. the forum dude :)EDIT: John it was my pleasure! keep up the great work! (I'm waiting for KSEA)
May 14, 201016 yr Author He concludes that with the right hardware, FSX can run tweak-free.Well, it's a good thing they help with vintage systems like my Penryn @ 3.9-4.1Ghz, because prior to those last tweaks, it just wasn't comparable. Did you ever experience this? One time you'd go out for a flight, everything was liquid smooth, and you thought you had it licked, only to go out again, in the SAME area, similar weather, etc, and BANG, what's up with this? A bit of stutter comes in, taxiing is a bit less fluid to downright bordering on choppy. This happened to me for most of the time since I built this rig, which went into service Feb 2008. FPSlimiter took me from the mid 80%'s to the low 90's, but the nagging variance kept performance from really being sterling. I have some great flights, smooth and all, but not this consistent, and superior overall. Definite increases in ALL key performance measures: FPS+Image Quality+freedom from stutters. Since the past 2 months adjustments, I have not had one bad flight, in any way. 2y/o main system, and a 280GTX about a year later.
