Calibrating CH Pedals--Brakes w/FSUIPC

Featured Replies

I use FSUIPC to calibrate CH rudder/brakes pedals. Brakes have been sloppy so request any assistance. When I go to joystick calibration tab in registered version of FSUIPC--2 of 11--prop/brakes etc I have the following values:Left Brake direct (REV is checked)In = - 16383 Out = 0 -16000 No Centre 16383Right Brake direct (REV is checked)All the same values as above. When attempt to reset in the tab, and set new values, only the right brake pedal gives values and it does it for both left and right. When I depress left brake, neither left or right changes any values.Do I need to go to axis alignment first? Please give me an idea of the correct steps (in some detail) to set the brakes up correctly. Thanks!Rich Perry

The correct way to calibrate throught FSUIPC is as follows:1. Delete any brake assignments withinn FS9 first. ( you may need to check when you load FS9 later as it can have the habit of re-assigning controls such as this)2. In FSUIPC "Axis Assignment" tab: press left brakeup and down at the same time as clicking the "Rescan" button. You will know the axis is registered when you see the IN OUT values change.3. Tick "Send direct to FSUIPC Calibration" and the top of four check boxes beneath. Then use the drop down box to find LEFT BRAKE.4. Now go to

Thanks Ron. I followed Peter's directions--works ok. However, brakes appear to be "sticking" when I have feet merely resting on the pedals--requires about 80% power to get moving. Here's a shot--hard to see but left/right are the same with -16383 when brakes are fully applied and 16383 when they're not. What are most folks using? I attempted to set something less to allow for feet on pedals--initially worked then it reset to 16383 after a flight.FSUIPCbrakesv1.jpg

Mine are set to this:LeftBrake=-15104,16384/16SlopeLeftBrake=3RightBrake=-15104,16384/16SlopeRightBrake=3You can get a good approximation using the calibration tab, but then fine tune in the ini file.scott s..

RichHave you checked that the brakes assignment in FS9 itself is still off. As I said in my post it is possible for FS9 to re-assign of its own accord. I had a few teething problems with joystick assignments when I moved to Win7 first off.I suggest removing the FSUIPC .ini file. Make sure your yoke/rudder etc are all plugged in and restart your computer. Then go first to your computer's joystick calibration tools , they should be under control panel. Calibrate with that first. Then start FS9 and go to the joystick calibration tool in there (it will probably open the same calibration tool. Calibrate in there. Then close FS9 and restart your computer. Now remove the brake assignments in FS9 and calibrate as per my instructions in FSUIPC.See how that goes. I have no problem with assignment as long as I start/restart the computer with everything plugged in. I DO have problems if I plug in say my rudders and then try and fly without restarting the computer. If you still have problems, try this. With FS9 running and if the brakes are not allowing you to release them, go to the FS9 menu and select "disable joystick". You will lose all your joystick controls so will need to do this test using the keyboard, BUT your brakes should still work as you have calibrated them direct through FSUIPC. Doing this test will show you if it is FS9's assignments causing problems.

Thanks for that...worked it several hours last night (before your latest post) and think I was digging myself into more problems. The parking brake won't work because brakes are continually on. I'll try your latest. Where are the brake values listed? In FS9.cfg or somewhere else. Lastly, in FSUIPC axis alignment page, I do the rescan while pushing left pedal back and forth....it gives my a value of 16383 for both in and out...is that ok? And, when I click on the drop down send direct to FSUIPC, do I check the first blank row and drop menu to left brake...then go to joystick calibration tab and calibrate...or do I also rescan and check right brake while I'm in axis alignment...I assume I click on the second box for the right brake since the left brake occupies the first check row.So is it do left brake first all the way through to calibration--hit ok then go back into FSUIPC and repeat for the right brake? Lastly, while I'm in calibratrion, the left brake will stop at 16383 when fully depressed, but it shows IN 16383 and OUT 16383...when I select REV it shows -16383 for IN and 0 for OUT. I assume the MAX column should be set as closely as possible to the fully iIN value ie -16383 and the MIN should be where the value is with the foot resting on it...maybe -10000? Does this sound correct?Rich

Fixed. I had no luck in FSUIPC--seems there was a strange floating value causing the left brake to stcik. I even opened FSUIPC.INI and added the values from above and unplugged/plugged rudder pedals back in/reboot etc. What worked was completely uninstalling FSUIPC (.DLL/.INI) files, and reinstalling and setting the tabs up (axis align and calibration). Thanks for the help.Rich

To turn off the brake assignment in FS9 you need to go to assignments , and with your CH pedals selected look at all the assigned commands. I think they are under "brakes left" and "brakes right". Make sure these assignments are deleted in FS9.In FSUIPC assignments page press rescan while pushing the left brake. it should read -16383 when depressed and 16383 when released. Select "send direct to FSUIPC calibration"/tick the top box only and select "left brake". Now press rescan while pressing the right brake and follow the same procedure. You click the top row again for "right brake". Now you have assigned both left and right brake you need to calibrate them. So in the calibration tab..... first reset, then for left brake tick REV and fully depress the left brake pedal. You should see 16183 (or close ) for both IN and OUT numbers.... now press the RIGHT HAND SET button, note this is now a positive number as you have REVersed the assignment. When you release the pedal you should see -16383 as the in number. Depress the pedal slightly until the IN number is about 5000 (positive number), then press the LEFT HAND SET button. Now you should see when you release the pedal the in number is -16383 and the out number is 0. Do the same for the right brake now.One final thing..... have you used aircraft specific checkbox at all ? It is a very useful function and I use it all the time as it means I have different calibraations for different aircraft. But if you are going to use it remember that a aircraft specific assignment will overide a generic assignment. Peter
