WARNING!An almost unbelievable issue has arisen with the Palit version of the 460 GTX. This is manufacture specific. I don't want to be sued for liable so I will just post the link to Guru3d for you to read:GURU3D NOTICELooks like serious stuff according to Guru3D!Stephen

My GTX 260/216 will be sold going for a GTX 460 1GB OC :(
Well mine arrived picked one up Gainward GTX460,GS, 1GB at 800/2000/1600 :( Temperature idle 32C and full load FSX 54C lolFaster and smoother and also a lot smaller as my GTX 260/SP216 SC still to do more testing :( Compared to my old GTX260 this one has:Untitled-1-2.jpgCheers,

So what's FSX like with the 460 compared to the 260 please Andr

I do too like my AG at sparse or normal. More than that doesn't look good to me.Thanks so much for the info!

Well Dazz FSX and my GTX260/216 SC was struggling at my new monitor resolution 1920 * 1080 for a while 1680 * 1050 was fine...Running 16x AF and 8xS AA at the resolution of 1920 * 1080...Running a quad core Q9650 @ 3.9 Ghz and Vista 32 bit and WD raptors 10000 RPM (yes I know SSD lol) with fast 2x2 GB memoryRunning the supplied Nvidia drivers 258.56FSX with GEX + ASE + UT2 + detailed aircraft + Aerosoft Mega Airport Amsterdam X + NL2000V4 + All settings to the right except mesh complexity (50%) and water low 2.x and Mesh at 19mm with textures 30cm and autogen sparse (because i don't like the wrong sized unrealistic autogen lol)All other settings full to the right.20 till 24 fps parked at the gate and on the ground with AES in the air much higher (but I have locked it to 24 :-))...So I gained a few more FPS but more important it loads the textures very fast and smooth with lod 4 just great and sharp around me...The GTX460 performance is far better as my old GTX260 :-)But still testing... and ymmv because it's different per hardware configuration and software....Just wait a few more feedbacks, but in my case I'm very glad I bought this and this one solved a long time old other problem for me too lolCheers,Almost forgot but it runs so cool in temperature :-)

Hey just a quick note to stay away from the PALIT cards... looks like they are missing heatsinks for the voltage regulators, so rather critical design flaw. You can google for more info.

I can see it being really worthwhile trading up from a GTX 260 or maybe even a 275 GTX, but a 285 GTX is nearly it's equal, with the newer card perhaps having a slight edge in most tests. Now if you were going to buy either a gtx 285 or a gtx 460, I think the 460 GTX would likely be clearly the best choice for its overclock and dx11 abilities, not to mention much lower price. It would be great to see some FSX benchmarks.Stephen
I agree and disagree at the same time. No way would I buy a GTX 285 now with what is currently available. The GTX 285 still commands a rather hefty price for what you get, IMO. Having said that, a stock GTX 460 should not beat a GTX 285 in most tests (though it has beaten a GTX 280 in a few tests, IIRC). A stock GTX 460 is more comparable to a GTX 275. A GTX 260 upgrade to a GTX 460 I would imagine would more than likely be worth it though (especially taking into account the supposed awesome overclockabilty of the GTX 460). Overall, a GTX 280/285 to a GTX 460 would be more of a lateral move than anything. I think what it really comes down to is what games you play the most. I heard the GTX 280/285 has an edge in some older games, but I don't really play any older games outside of Silent Hunter III and IV.Now, if could get 2x GTX 470s at a good price...I would be all over that. BFBC 2, IRacing, GTR 2, etc.. in NV Surround? Oh yeah! :)*EDIT* Saw Andre's 260 to 460 post. Great news!

You are gonna keep the GTX 260 for PhysX, right, Andre? :(

Mine's in too... HUGE difference from my 4850 radeon card... more fps, smoother and using NickN's Nvidia configs the image quality is in a completely different league. I do have a bit of texture flashing initially, but things settle down quickly. Over mega airport Heathrow in a JS41 it's smooth although framerates drop quite a bit. Finally I can fly and not keep fiddling with settings to try and get an enjoyable experience. No stutters at all, hoorah!!Jimi-5 750 @4.00 Ghz4gb 1600 ddr3GTX 460 1Gb1920x1080 22" Monitor

I looked at Fry's in Tempe earlier today, was gonna pick one up if they had it, they don't have them in yet though.

Thanks for sharing! That is absolutely delightful. So the good reviews were accurate? Near 470 GTX performance at a lot lesser price! Stephen :(

Just a heads up, all. The "main" release (when the bulk of the cards will be available) of the GTX 460 is the 26th of this month, so you should all start seeing quite a few more 1GB offerings on that date and forward. I am anxious to see if EVGA offers an SSC+ version of this card. I just read a review of the GTX 460 vs the GTX 470, stock and overclocked and it looks like the GTX 460 was extremely close to the 470 in most tests, beating it in 1 or 2 tests. Thes tests it did lose it certainly wasn't by much. The only issue I really see with the GTX 460 and FSX in general at higher resolutions/settings is the limit of 1GB of RAM. I think this is where the GTX 480 really shines. This is the one thing keeping me from buying a couple GTX 460s (I just can't see the GTX 460 doing well at 2560x1600 and high FSAA levels with oly 1GB of ram). Also, I really wish FSX scaled well with SLI/CFX. As of now, the only time SLI/CFX is of really any benefit is in very high levels of FSAA. Ack....

Well some strange text effects with the supplied driver 258.61 updated to 258.96 and all is as it should be and this one is the first to support the GTX 460 go figure :( Still testing :-)
