July 19, 201015 yr As always, I trust the members of this forum for good advice on new FSX addons. I'm seriously thinking about Airport Enhancer HDX, but will wait for a few reviews before deciding. The front page of AVSIM had a little writeup, and I checked out the screens at the developer's website. Please let me know how you like this enhancer, and how it affects performance.Thanks.Stan
July 19, 201015 yr Moderator I saw that also this morning. I took a look at it and frankly REX already provides me most of those textures to choose from already. Not to mention, I like the look of the REX choices more. I'm going to skip this one. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

July 19, 201015 yr Just had a look at the screens, not natural enough, I'll stick with REX2 Jose De Campos London
July 20, 201015 yr Of course it's a personal preference, and I'm not wishing to 'diss' a product, but going off the screenshots, I think for the most part I prefer the ones in REX that I am using, and that includes the completely free grass texture from the REX website.I quite like those Airport Enhancer runway signs though, which do indeed look good, but since they were the only ones I preferred out of the bunch, it's not enough to justify the price for me. Others might disagree though. Weighing up the price, which is a little over half that of REX, I'm not convinced it is such great value when you consider that REX can be used as a one stop shop for so many things in FSX, in that it has a flight planner, enhanced clouds, airport textures, a weather engine and a weather map. If someone is using ASE and a different set of clouds, then it might be a different story though. But, when all is said and done, if you like those textures, then go for it. It's your sim and if they float your boat, then you should get them.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
July 20, 201015 yr Author SEE....Now that's why I turn to this forum for answers!I, too, have REX2 and I probably would have wasted my money on this addon. Based on what I'm reading here, I'll pass on this Airport Enhancer.Thank you.Stan
July 20, 201015 yr I'm not necessarily saying it's a waste of money, merely that it doesn't float my boat enough to justify it for me personally. Nothing is a waste of money if you personally like it and are happy to pay the price. I paid fifty quid not so long ago for an old WW1 Royal Flying Corp cap badge, to me it was worth it, someone else might think that was a stupid waste of fifty quid for a piece of old scrap metal. It's all down to what you like personally, and if that happens to be those Airport Enhancer textures and what they will make your sim look like, then it isn't a waste of money to buy them at all.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
July 20, 201015 yr Hey there guys,Not to break up your discussion here but the provided screenshots don't do justice for the product. You actually have to load up the sim before you can get a feel of the textures. On a side note, I use Rex as well; Tim is good friend of mine and his software is absolutely amazing (if I remember I think I was one of the first to purchase it :() . REX's runway textures are great but they are aging and are only at 2048px (compared to AEHDX at 4096px) and considering how FSX maps them you actually are only getting a 1024px runway.Of course it always comes to personal preference, but you really can say much if you haven't used it. We do have a 14 day guarantee so if it doesn't float your boat you can always get a refund. All the best :)
July 20, 201015 yr In which case, the product website needs to provide better screenshots which can do it justice, or perhaps some high definition footage on youtube or wherever, streamed to the website, since the images that are there at the moment are clearly what people are going to judge it on, and you can see from this thread that the judgement most people are coming to, is to not buy it based on what they are seeing.Notwithstanding refunds, it's simply not realistic to expect people to buy it first so they can see it in their sim, and then judge it after they have handed over the cash. There is no earthly reason why a purely visual enhancement cannot display what it will do with some good quality pictures on a website, especially if that website is where one hopes to garner sales.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

Not so Hidef but buildings and ground stuff (antennas, lights etc...) all over the world. Maybe too much FEDex buildings... the same goes with x-plane libraries: too much IKEA over all world!!RV See U in the cloud(s) Galleries @FlyEM Flying Ideas
