July 25, 201015 yr hi and good evening ......am having a question conc a fsx / gtx 480 / i7-980 configuration ......am currently using the ati 5870 with an i7-980xe @ 4,0ghz ..... but i am not happy with the results i am getting (fps/microstuttering etc.... tried a lot of tweaks - outcome: soso) so i think about getting me two gtx 480 (in NVIDIA SLI Konfiguration) ...... i am not shure but shouldnt this be fsx heaven (oh i forgot - i am using 3 monitors in eyevinity config at the moment at a resolution of 5870x1200 with my 3 28 inch monitors ........ i know that many people over here at this forum prefer nvidia anyways ... but what about this sli-solution ..... just to have enough power to have 3 monitors running fine and having fsx running at an average of 30 to 60 frames .... without microstutters and all this other stuff we dont need ......(tweaks included) ......would this be the right step ?????my current installation:fsx, gex, utx,fs global 2010, aerosoft eddf, fsdt kjfk and a few other addons ........any ideas ??? please advise ......cheers ... ric
July 25, 201015 yr FSX and SLI don't play well together: FSX doesn't support SLI and it might even slow down FSX a bit (compared to using only one GTX480)! You should be better off with one GTX480 when it comes to FSX performance, (although I don't know if that's going to work with 3 monitors...?).
July 25, 201015 yr Author hi ....one gtx 480 does not support 3 monitors ..... only 2 ..... thats why i checked with nvidis and they said a sli config would work ..... but then again - fsx does not support sli ..... i know that - but the gtx 480 is a bit different then a gtx 285 .... i thought .....#ric
July 25, 201015 yr I have 2 480's in sli config, and fsx runs like a dream. 3D surround to boot. You can also have tri sli, one monitor attached to each card. Keith Sandford.
July 25, 201015 yr I have 2 gtx 480 running in SLI and I extremely delighted with my performance. If you have the psu and the money for an extra card, go for it! This way you can come back and share your experience. MSFS
July 25, 201015 yr but the gtx 480 is a bit different then a gtx 285 .... i thought .....Ah, yes, I know what you mean: SLI might not work perfectly but 2 GTX480 will work better than one (or two) GTX285's, even when SLI results in a loss of a frame or two. Funny how you (me) always think that the best is best while something that might not be 100% the best might still be the best for a certain situation. If you know what I mean... :( So yes, then I guess the answer is simple: for three monitors 2 GTX480's would be the best indeed even though SLI itself might not be the best for FSX!
July 25, 201015 yr Everytime someone even mention SLI there is always a bunch of responses telling you that SLI isn't supported by FSX and that the performance will be worse and so on and so on. While there is some truth behind this, it's another story if the goal is to run multiple monitors. With Nvidia's recent driver you can run multiple screens like Eyefinity and then SLI is a requirement. So yes, sometimes SLI+FSX is a very good combination. To answer the OP... yes it works very well. I've been using Eyefinity (ATI 5870 ) for some time and I've also had the opportunity to play with 2 x GTX470 in SLI sourround mode with three hires monitors in FSX. The pros and cons are pretty much the same as always with ATI vs NVIDIA, i.e. ATI performs very well FPS-wise but has a rather large performance penalty when increasing the level of AA/AF etc. I'm actually keeping my Eyefinity setup because I'm quite happy with it and I could never get my additional touchscreens (gauges) to play along with Nvidia surround mode. I only tried the initial sourround gaming beta driver from Nvidia though.Btw, Bojote can never get enough credit for fixing pretty much every issue I had with the ATI card, like the broken vsync and bad performance in clouds etc.
July 25, 201015 yr Be sure to run fsx in dx10 preview mode though. there is a bug in the new driver which dislikes a few dx9 games, fsx being one of the worst affected. Keith Sandford.
July 25, 201015 yr Does this mean that ATI CrossfireX will work in FSX? As I want to run FSX (and a few other games) in a six monitor config with Eyefinity (when I build my new PC... when I find a job that pays well and that hires 14 year olds,) basically I want to run 2 of these with six monitors. July 25, 201015 yr Author @ slipstream --- doesnt dx10 effects fsx performancewise ???? anyways - are u thru with your invest conc MS/FSX being used on a commercial level ;-)) --- been checking this/your thread -- there is some plans conc this business model here in germany too .....@tolip2 --- what is the idea conc bad performance in clouds - being served my bojote ..... can u give me that thread .....@all --- will discuss this with my technicians tomorrow ....... am not really shure if i should go for gtx480 --- but i need to improve performance of my rig - due to it starts to ###### me off .... :-))rgds ... ric I have 2 gtx 480 running in SLI and I extremely delighted with my performance. If you have the psu and the money for an extra card, go for it! This way you can come back and share your experience.hi jose ..... what is yr average fps ??? in for example kjfk or -- friday harbour ??? any stuttering with your gtx 480 ?????thanx ... ric
July 26, 201015 yr FSX should not take advantage of SLI unless you are running very high levels of FSAA and are running at a very high resolution. The NV Surround folks are running 3 monitors with at least SLI or Tri-SLI so they are problably seeing a benefit to a multiple GPU solution. I would imagine at 5760x1080 and beyond that a person's GPU could become a limiting factor, especially with FSAA thrown in. lolThis was in Phil Taylors blog some time ago. SLI SLI and Crossfire happen in the driver. The app stays out of the way and, as long as the app doesn Ark -------------------------- I9 9900K @ 5ghz / 32GB G.Skill (Samsung B) / Aorus Master Mobo / EVGA GTX 2080Ti FTW 3
