Scenery suggestions: The Caribbean

Featured Replies

Hey guys,Now that I have FSX and FS2004 running alongside each other, I have given it some thought what use both simulators will have. I ended up deciding I'll probably end up doing Caribbean flights in FSX and European flights in FS2004. This is mainly because around the Caribbean I'd mainly be using Aircraft such as the Aerosoft Twin Otter and Flight1 BN2 Islander, all of which are FSX only and relatively easy on performance, whereas in Europe I'd use jetliners such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing 747, all of which return worse FPS. In FS2004, however, they are fine. So my question is this: What do you recommend for Caribbean FSX scenery? Here is what I already own:- FlyTampa Sint Maarten;- Tropicalsim ABC Islands;- LatinVFR Port of Spain TTPP.I'm mostly interested in flying the Aerosoft Twin Otter, Flight1 BN2 Islander and other such turboprops, but flying the occasional jetliner would also be nice (on a flight from Miami to TNCM, for example). The scenery does not have to be FSX-only, but not FS2004-only, otherwise it would defeat the purpose I'd have for it (using it to fly around the Caribbean in FSX). The scenery can also be payware or freeware, that doesn't really matter.By the way, does anybody know of a Caribbean airline or perhaps flights around the Caribbean where the JS4100 is used on?

Hello Benjamin,The problem with regional airlines here is the lack of stability; here today and who knows where tomorrow.Caribair used to have a 31, but I am not even sure that they still exist. (In fact, perhaps I saw that airplane junked on the grounds of the old MDHE, but I could be wrong, as I was just driving past.) I think I remember a 41 with the SAP logo, but I am not sure, you would have to check. Generally, I think that the Windward and Leeward based companies use smaller (cheaper?) aircraft, but I am no expert. Hmm, just checked the Caribair web site and they are once again authorized to fly, but now only to Port-au-Prince and Aruba, yet they still seem to show pictures of the JS31 and also what could be another 31, but strangely not in their paint scheme, don't know what it is.Also, checked the SAP site and they still claim to have a few JS31 and 32.Good luck.Best regards.Luis

I like to fly in the Caribbean as well. Between Fly Tampa, Tropical Sim and Latin VFR, most of the Caribbean is covered. I am sure Tropical Sim will have the rest covered eventually. The PW Sceneries stuff is nice and the price is right. Also, ImagineSim San Jaun is decent. Fly Tampa's Grenadines is nice but it is a little hard on the FPS especially considering the size of the airports. If you got TS's ABC islands and Latin VFR's Trinidad and Tobago, you could fly to Venezuela on a Venezolana J41 (cool livery). That's the only one I can think of.I have been doing a lot of Insel Air MD80 flights from TNCC to various Caribbean destination lately. TJSJ and TNCM are also great hubs for the Caribbean.I would personally love to see the Mexican Caribbean taken care of. TS has a decent Cancun but we also need the smaller airports along with Cozumel. The FlyMex stuff is really outdated.I'm glad you brought this up. It has solidifed my desire to the the BN-2. Lots of Caribbean operators of that aircraft.

I suggest, in addition to previous posts

  • France VFR Guadeloupe and Martinique
  • FLyTampa grenadines islands
  • Tropicalsim St Thomas
  • Newport St Kitts
  • Newport Antigua
  • ImagineSim TJSJ
  • Taburet Virgin islands
  • LatinVFR tobago TTCP and Cayman Islands

Thanks for the suggestions so far!Art_P: these indeed look good, I'll be sure to check them out.Luis: Honestly, I don't really care if the airline still exists, as long as it had either a 31 or 41... So in that sense, it seems there is plenty of choice, although I'll have to make my own repaints I guess. Thanks for naming them! I tried searching myself but came nowhere doing that. Caribair actually seems to be just the airline I was looking for. The Wikipedia article lists an enormous amount of destinations that all are right up my street, like the Netherlands Antilles, Port of Spain... That said, that's probably an old list, because their own website says something completely different. Oh well... It actually also says they have a BN2, which makes it an even more attractive airline. Thanks! I'm gonna do some repaints for Caribair :)duckbilled: it is interesting you should mention Insel Air and their MD-80 flights. I have the Maddog 2008 with a livery of them, waiting for me to take it out for a ride. I also made myself a Surinam Airways livery for the MD-80 with which I also intend to fly around the Caribbean and South America.RV: Thanks for that big list! I'll check them out and take my pick.So it seems most people recommend FlyTampa Grenadines. I have been looking at it, but the problem is that there aren't many airlines that fly there. there is SVG Air that actually use a Twinotter of course, so I could do a livery for that one and fly the Aerosoft twinotter. I might just do that :)

Make up your own airline company that flies there. If you want to keep it real just don't fly there as often as you do the other places.

Ciao!

Meh, I'm not really into making my own airlines. If I do flights that are not according to actual flightplans (current or old, doesn't really matter to me), I usually take a "private"livery, so as to look like this is a private aircraft. There is one such livery for the PMDG J41, so I might as well use that. That said, I'll go on doing the Caribair J41 livery. Mind you, they don't even use the J41, only the J31, but since they are family I don't really care.

Do you know, Benjamin, like so many here, I have a lot of stuff in my download folder, most of which, unfortunately, I have never installed. On the other hand, the following are installed: - AI Pan American World Airways Dominicana JS31 by Omar Pineda, 2008model Jetstream 31 by Dee Waldron. Project AI liveries - AI Pan American World Airways Dominicana JS31 by Olivier Junodmodel John Rogers - AI ACSA (Air Century)JS31 by Olivier Junodmodel John Rogers - AI Caribair JS31 by Olivier Junodmodel John Rogers - AI SAP (Servicios Aereos Profesionales)JS31 by Olivier Junodmodel John RogersMaybe it will give you some ideas, although I am not sure that all of them are still flying this aircraft.Best regards.Luis
