August 12, 201015 yr Hello,I'm about to buy a 30" monitor (2,560 x 1,600 resolution) and was wondering if therewould a big fps hit from my present 21" (1600 x 1200).ThanksJoeAsus P6T Deluxe moboCore i7 920 @ 3.86GB DDR3 1600 GTX 285 Jose De Campos London
August 13, 201015 yr Hi Joe, An excellent question and one that has been much on my mind because I'd like to do the same. I have a 24 inch monitor at 1920 x 1200 and I see no great improvement in frame rate if the resolution is reduced (maybe 2-3 fps on an i7 920 @ 3.4 GHz). But whether the GTX285 can handle 2560 x 1600 without a larger drop I can't say. Anyone?Cheers,Noel. 11th Gen i9-11900K @ 3.5GHz | nVidia GeForce RTX 3080 | Corsair 64 GB RAM | Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB | Asus 27" RoG G-Sync Track IR5 | Thrustmaster Warthog | CH Products Pedals
August 13, 201015 yr While I don't know for certain I would guess no - your GTX285 should be up to the task. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
August 13, 201015 yr What would it take to put one of those 30" + 2 times 21" monitors (portrait) for a full wide screen 3 monitor set up?Can that be done with two video cards? and what about using Matrox? would that take this much resolution? Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
August 13, 201015 yr I have a 30" Samsung monitor (2560 x 1600) and I absolutely love it.The image at this resolution is breathtaking....I'm running it with a Nvidia GTX 250. There is probably a slight penalty but I have never actually measured it.Recently, I've upgraded to an i7 930 with 6GB RAM and Win 7, and my frames are very smooth. Later I plan to replace it with a Nvidia 480.Bill Clark Windows 10 Pro, Ver 21H2 CPU I5-8600K 5.0GHz, GPU Nvidia RTX 3090 VRAM 24GB Gigabyte Z370 Gaming 7, 2TB M2.NVMe, RAM 32GB

August 13, 201015 yr Author Just ordered one, so I guess we'll know begining of next week, I work in graphics which gave me the excuse to buy a NEC MultiSync LCD3090WQXi.I'll keep you informedJoe Jose De Campos London
August 14, 201015 yr What would it take to put one of those 30" + 2 times 21" monitors (portrait) for a full wide screen 3 monitor set up?Can that be done with two video cards? and what about using Matrox? would that take this much resolution?Manny- part of the answer in selecting multiple monitor sizes is- How wide do they need to be for the trio to span your full peripheral vision. That is to say, so you see ONLY FS views out of the corners of your eyes. If you acquire larger monitors, and then set them up farther away, you gain little. As a reference, I use a 19" CRT with a 17" LCD on either side. This trio at 26" from head to screens produces a full width perspective for my eyes. That is, I see nothing else but FS scenery - with triple views that equates to a field of view of 146º+. (3x45º+ 11ºbezel adj.)Rather than having larger monitors, my choice would be to add smaller monitors #4 & 5 with two more FS views- total 5 & a 225º+ FOV.When you increase monitor size, you probably will also need to increase resolution to avoid graininess- which requires more CPU horsepower. And note that ANY monitor (for any use) should be viewed square on to avoid distortion. This means that the outer monitors must be angled toward you in an arc- like a curved IMAX theater screen! Anything less than square- both laterally AND vertically- equals image distortion.Alex Reid
August 16, 201015 yr Hello,I'm about to buy a 30" monitor (2,560 x 1,600 resolution) and was wondering if therewould a big fps hit from my present 21" (1600 x 1200).ThanksJoeAsus P6T Deluxe moboCore i7 920 @ 3.86GB DDR3 1600 GTX 285Should be no FPS hit at all. I have been using the Dell 30" monitor since FSX came out and never noticed any fps hit. FSX is CPU dependent more than GPU so I doubt there would be an issue with FPS. I have reduced the resolution within FSX to something like 1280 x 1024 and have seen increased FPS but the visual quality is really poor at that resolution. With a 30" monitor, it's like reinventing FSX as it's a whole new show.Best regards,Jim
